I went to the NY auto show this past weekend and one car particularly stood out, the GT-R. Perhaps, it was because I knew nothing about the car and was in disbelief when the spokesman announced some of its stats i.e. 0 to 60 in 3.3, msrp of $70,475, etc. I went home and did a little research. I know Ferrari's aren't about just going fast but it looks like Nissan is building one heck of a monster. Does anyone know anything about this car?

Guess it's more than Corvettes we're gonna have to avoid...

great car, pretty heavy but incredibly underrated in terms of hp. initial reports were that stock skylines were making the claimed 480hp at the wheels! That means the car really makes close to 600hp, that + awd helps account for the astonishing numbers. It's also important to remember the car is turbo, which helps nissan make more power for cheap.

Enough cannot be said about the car however it truly is phenomenal.

I was talking to someone from Nissan about the car and his "off the record" comment didn't make me feel great about the car long-term or as a daily driver. As he puts it, EVERYTHING on the car has been pushed to the absolute max from a tuning standpoint-engine management systems, turbos, brakes, sensors, etc. Yes, it is true every car is filled with technology, but I got the impression that this car is the equivalent of a DINAN modified M3 with every modification available. There is a reason BMW, Mercedes and everyone else doesn't push their cars to the limit out of the factory but Nissan wanted to beat all of the records out of the gate. Don't get me wrong, the car is incredible, and that's what warranties are for but it should be interesting to see how these cars hold up after 18 months.

I'm having trouble buying that. EVO Mag has had a chance to drive 3 of these cars in the past few months, straight out of the box with no opportunity for Nissan to tweak the specific ride (2 of them were UK customer cars). Each car performed above expectations and was flawless. I doubt that would happen if the GT-R were so highly strung. Nissan scored with this car; it beats a Z06 0-100-0. It beat a GT3 on the track. It beats the AUDI R8 in road testing. I guess we'll see how rugged they are.

+1 I've read reports of 15 consecutive drop clutch style (yes it has launch control that drops clutch from 4500RPM) and the car ran 0-60 times within .01 second of itself each time. Try doing that in a Lambo....
