I would be up for that trip as well. I always enjoy the seeing other peoples toy boxes.
Gee Craig...I dont know if I could make it. don't want to rack up the miles (tehehe) Maybe if I cut through the woods.
Craig, If my car sees your garage she gonna get garage envy. Garage tour and road trip sounds like a capital idea !!! - Ed -
All, I'm planning to go to this event this Saturday. Twenty minutes due east of AVF. Went to spectate last year and there was a nice selection of cars. If you enjoy looking at British machines this is a nice low key event. And it's free !!!! www.jaguarfestival.com/www.JaguarFestival.com/Welcome.html - Ed -
Craig, I am up for a road trip... especially on a Saturday... gives me a reason to get out of the house... and I need some new ideas for my garage (I have been considering a side mount garage door opener). I am hoping to get my TR back this Saturday. They are putting the motor back in the TR tomorrow so I hoping there are no problems when they test drive it on Thursday so i can actually pick it up this weekend. They have had it for 2 months. Joe
Joe, Hope everything works out great with the TR. With you, Paul, and me lined up in G'bury we could end the reign of the 355's, 348's, and the 308's!!!! Then again a little UConn Husky yellow looks good mixed in. Don't think I can make it Sat., but hope to see you all Sunday.
I think I can make it. It would be great to take a long cruise and I would love to check out the garage. --Mike
I don't foresee anything that would prevent me from being able to make it (8/22) at this point. Weather permitting of course... I am one of "those guys" that belive Ferraris melt in rain.
Craig's garage pic inspired me to write a little poem..hope you enjoy my garage is my heaven, what more can i ask? no matter what i may need, this haven is up to task, as shelter from the snow, or a fix for a squeak, a lift to examine my beauties to find that pesky leak, a plethora of tools, bought some new ones today, i've got Schumacher's winning smile proudly on display, tonight i seek solitude within these hallowed walls, close my eyes and give thanks for all my treasures great and small, for taking me to places near and far away, for keeping me safe and having fun along the way, revving the engine, and the smell of gasoline, to some it's a nuisance, to me it's a dream, watching F1 races, chatting with a friend, who understands why modifying doesn't have an end, now it's time to close the door and turn off the lights, with a big smile on my face, i now say good night, til morning comes with the rise of the sun, i turn the key and let the engine run, life can be tough, life can be sweet, this is what i know, sometimes the only thing that you can do, is get in that car and GO!
Well, looks like the TR will be delayed at least another week until it comes home. As the shop was trying to install the engine today, they realized the oil cooler lines that parts supplier sent them were the wrong size (sent one for '87 and up) and of course the one we need for an '85 & '86 are hard to find. They were able to find the two hoses in Germany for $1,800 (I think he said a piece... but don't recall... was still in shock). Of course they knew I would not pay that so they sent the old ones off to a hose & machine shop to have them spec'd and custom made. No ETA or price as of yet, but the delay is guaranteed. Oh well... guess I'm slummin in the 308 for another week...
Ok, guys and gals. Here are the particulars for all the G-Bury F-chatters and Garage Monkeys that will be joining us for this gathering. Date: Saturday, August 22nd (Rain Date will be Saturday, August 29th) Gathering time: Between 10-10:30am Gathering place has been selected: We will all gather at the Denny's parking lot in Westbrook. It is located at Exit 65 (Essex Rd or Rte 153) on I-95 and is on the south side of the I-95, east side of 153/Essex Rd.. It is easy to get to and easy to find. It has a large parking lot and no one ever parks in the lot behind the building, so should be plenty of room. The address is: 28 Flat Rock Place, Westbrook, CT http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=denny's+in+westbrook,+ct&fb=1&split=1&gl=us&cid=0,0,4791117377702776168&ei=u86FStHHO4fIsQP6mdHNDA&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&resnum=1 I also drove the planned road tour route today. I selected a combination of twisty back roads and good smooth secondary roads that should be relaxing at times and entertaining at other times. All roads are pretty smooth with no challenges for front spoilers. I have even included Lane's favorite playground in the tour. It is about a 45 mile route with minimal stoplights to break us up. It took about an hour to drive it today, including a couple of stretches where I got trapped behind some slowpokes. If anyone has a couple of walkie-talkies, we could use them, one for the lead car and one for the rear car, to help make sure we don't lose anyone along the way. Just PM me and let me know if you have some. We'll plan on heading out on the road tour between 10:30-10:45. That will put us at my place around noon. I'll have some food and cold drinks waiting there for everyone when we arrive. As with our regular gatherings, those that can fit chairs in their cars should bring them along so people can sit and relax outside by the cars if they want to. As we get closer to next Saturday and you think you will be coming, just send me a PM. That will help me with the food and refreshment order. The weather forcast for the 22nd looks perfect right now: Sat Aug 22 Sunny High of 81° 0% chance of rain If that changes and it looks like rain on the 22nd, we'll just reschedule for the 29th. I'll make that call by 6am on the 22nd and will post here. Be there and join us, if you can.
Joe, Sorry to hear of your hose woes...They can be a bear to find and usually a bit expensive. I suspect, if I'm reading the parts book correctly, that the price they quoted you is for both hoses. I'm not 100% sure on this, as the parts book is not very clear on the pre-87 cars. Regardless, I'd have them made, as well. Both the quality and price will be much more attractive. Slummin' in a 308, eh? Now that's funny! Best, David
I've had a handful of requests recently, both from friends and customers about the Glastonbury meets. These people are like minded enthusiasts who only want to enjoy a nice Sunday drive with a local destination, while sharing it with other high line vehicles and their owners. These aren't Italian cars either- primarily classic MB, BMW M and Porsche; just as a side note because I do realize the forum I've just registered on. What I didn't want to do was give out the address or a link to this thread without checking with the regulars and anyone who helps arrange the meet. Would this be frowned upon in any way or new attendees unwelcome? Thanks, Morgan
All are welcome, Morgan. The more cars there are to drool over, the better we like it. Come and join us.
Not only no....Hell no...frowning is not allowed. Please see post Number 1 Paragraph 2 sums it up...No invitations, ALL are welcome. We only ask respect. Looking like a spectacular day tomorrow (bout time) and I for one cannot wait. Craig, you bringing a cruise route map for comment? See ya at the bank.
Haven't made a map, but I can describe it to you tomorrow. I've found a way to get around that rough detour on 154 by leaving from my house instead of the bank. Wanna join me? It's actually the first leg of our road tour, so you can get a feel for it. I'll be leaving here about 7:45. Kay says 9 is still a mess north and south.
I will be there. Will there be any U-Conn Huskies there tomorrow? Want to return the scanner since I now have one of my own. Also, nice job on the poem Dr. Jess.
Thanks Joe I was out in Oneonta NY today on the bike...awesome roads out that way! Planning on riding out tomorrow...see you all in the morning
