Yes still one of the best pure and bravest racers in modern times. Thats were he is at. F1 would be less exiting with out him.

That's exactly my thinking. I thought Ferrari was toast 8 races into the season. And, their Constructor points for the season prove it.

finishing 2nd in the points on his 1st season id say thats not too shabby for alonso

if it were mechanical issue tough luck but losing from a bad call pitstop is just way too poor for me, ferrari are being outrace and outsmart very badly this race

Man, this is a *harsh* audience! :D

    Over the past few months I've read (paraphrasing slightly);

    - They've had a dismal season.
    - The car is crap
    - Alonso sucks
    - Massa Sucks
    - Domenicali sucks
    - Rob Smedley sucks
    - Their strategies suck
    - etc.

Believe me, there's nine other teams out there that would *love* to have finished 3rd in WCC and 2nd in the WDC!

It really isn't *that* bad! ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

My Reaction 1 minute after the race ended -
"what the **** is going... Who the ****? What the **** is the this ********? Alonso is an ***? Someone should be fired? Fire the whole team? Everyone? Who put this TV in front of me? Who ever made this TV should also be fired?"

My Reaction 3 - 4 hours after the race ended -
    1) Red Bull and Vettel really deserved the championship.
    2) For Alonso to put that Ferrari race car in 2nd place on the championship is commendable.
    4) Yas Marina circuit has been built for the show and no real racing can occur on that track.
    5) Last but not least....
FORZA FERRARI! FORZA LUCA, ALONSO and MASSA!
    See you in 2011!!!!

Second place is just first of the losers. ;)

Second in the WDC counts for as much as 24th.
Concorde money goes to WCC results.

First in the WDC gets car #1. Everybody else lines up by team points.

I totally agree. I honestly don't care who wins the driver's championship. It's the team championship that matters.

I'm happy for that driver of course. But, to win the Constructors championship shows who really had the best car and team of the year.

Winning the Drivers championship? It's like saying someone hit the most home runs but finished on a team that was second. Who cares? What we care about is who won the World Series or Super Bowl.

Are you guys discussing the same Alonso? Alonso had the WDC to win, he threw it away not in this race but all season, with stupid mistakes. If one looks close, Alonso was gifted one of his championships, he had no rival with a comparable car.

Alonso is a lying b*st**d, that is a fact. First with McLaren, and then with Renault. He threw people under the bus to save his own puckered ass. That pretty much distances him from being a really cool guy. He is a scumbag that tarnished Ferrari's image.

As I said in another post today, and as SRTMike also stated, today was good karma. Very very good karma.

Gosh, I hope I am not being too harsh on Alonso.

I feel badly for Massa. He has had the wind knocked out of him by a team in which he believed strongly, just as many if not most here felt when LdM bent over prison like to hire Alonso. I hope for his sanity Massa moves on to a better team in 2011.

I can think of at least three.

And I will continue to wish more bad karma on Alonso, LdM, and that half of the Scuderia. My hope is that Ferrari will get smart, and bring in a second driver that will act as slimy as Alonso and punt him into the secondary status he should have.

Don't get me wrong - I'd much rather "we'd" won!

To the "man in the street", yes. To those who know what went in to achieving it, not so much IMO.

And 3rd is still a pretty mice payout :)

Can anybody actually read the #'s on the cars when they're on track these days? ;)

That "wind" that was knocked out of Massa didn't have much to do with his lousy qualifying he had all year, did it?

Even if Webber was the fastest *for that lap*, he was behind Petrov, who he most likely won't be able to pass.

On the side note, even if Webber did take 4th place and Alonso 5th, who knows, maybe he would let Alonso by just so Vettel won't win LOL :D

The wind or fire went out, when a spring hit him in the face, and a year later with a team order..IMHO, he needed that win to boost his ego.

I have never been a big fan of Massa, but he was amazingly quick at times and if he got pole usually always won with it.

Passing and driving in the wet was not his best asset IMO, however pounded into a #2 role rightly or wrongly you....gotta feel for him..

For the record although in the grand scheme of things Ferrari did the right thing with Massa, but sometimes like has been posted karma is a .....

Look at Petrov's face alone, that guy already lost.

Sorry I'm still pretty mad at that guy lol :)

On another note, Vettel deserved it coming down to the last corner.

He was dominant all year around with some bad luck here and there,

but after hearing him speak in many interviews, he seems really cool so good for him.

He makes a better champion than Webber anyday. ;)

    Actually, that's a GREAT point!

Webber doesn't need to keep whining next year - the pecking order will be indisputably proven. He will have a big #2 on his car, as he rightfully deserves. Vettel will have a big #1 on his car, as he rightfully deserves.

Mark won't have to wonder if he's a #2 anymore, and who is #1 - he will be reminded of it every time he gets into the car. Perfect! Maybe now he can STFU! :D

I feel for him too. I've always liked Massa. But the results speak for themselves. Apples to apples, Alonso out qualified his teammate nearly all season.

    Massa vs Alonso qualifying positions

    Bahrain:
    Massa 2 Alonso 3

    Australia:
    Massa 5 Alonso 3

    Malaysia
    Massa 21 Alonso 19

    China
    Massa 7 Alonso 3

    Spain
    Massa 9 Alonso 4

    Monaco
    Massa 4 Alonso 24

    Turkey
    Massa 8 Alonso 12

    Canada
    Massa 7 Alonso 4

    Europe
    Massa 4 Alonso 3

    Britian
    Massa 7 Alonso 3

    Germany
    Massa 3 Alonso 2

    Hungary
    Massa 4 Alonso 3

    Belgium
    Massa 6 Alonso 10

    Italy
    Massa 3 Alonso 1

    Singapore
    Massa 24 Alonso 1

    Japan
    Massa 12 Alonso 4

I think a swap Massa <-> Kubica would most likely be the best solution. Massa should be a #1 drive in a midfield team now and not waste his time as the clear #2 at Ferrari, while Kubica has the fire to challenge Alonso.

Interesting. Other than screw ups (which both of them suffered on too many occasions), that looks like a pretty darn solid record for a #2...... I haven't checked, but guess Lewis -v- Jenson shakes out about the same - Except nobodys calling for Jens to be fired..... ;)

    Same with Merc!..... :)

    Cheers,
