He had a run and it meant as much as any run during testing. :)

You're right though, it's this year or he's gone.

After an unexpectedly dry day at Jerez, Mark Webber finished top of the table and recorded the fastest lap at the Spanish circuit so far during testing. Despite the near perfect conditions the day was disrupted by six red flags, the fourth of which was caused by Webber's Red Bull stopping on track.

Throughout the day the fastest lap was shared between Webber, Jenson Button - who eventually finished third - and Fernando Alonso, whose time of 1:20.115 was good enough for second fastest.

Nico Hulkenberg clocked up 138 laps - the highest number by any driver - as Williams spent the day running race simulations and practicing pit stops. The team experienced no problems until the car stopped on track with five minutes of the session remaining, halting action for the day.

Despite a long unexplained absence during the middle of the day, Michael Schumacher ran for 79 laps, recording a best time of 1:21.437, enough to leave him fifth in the standings. Robert Kubica enjoyed an uneventful day in the Renault and ran as high as fourth at one point before finishing the day sixth.

Force India's Adrian Sutil did not venture out until after 11am, but despite the slow start to the day, still recorded 69 laps. It was a torrid day for Sauber, as Kamui Kobayashi only started running just before 11am and immediately caused the third red flag of the day. It turned out to be a fuel supply problem, but the car was not ready to run again until after 4pm. As a result the team managed only 28 laps, missing out on the best conditions of the week so far.

Virgin's Lucas di Grassi was responsible for two of the six stoppages of the day, the first when he spun off (narrowly avoiding making contact with the barriers) in the morning, the second when his car came to a halt on track later in the afternoon. With all the problems Virgin only completed 34 laps. The only consolation came in recording a marginally quicker time than fellow newcomers Lotus.

After a crash stopped Lotus' testing yesterday, it took just over half an hour for Heikki Kovalainento stop the session again today, this time a faulty clutch sensor was to blame. After a long stint in the garage Kovalainen returned to action, only for a cracked exhaust to further blight his efforts. He finished the day at the bottom of the table, but recorded a respectable 68 laps.

Testing concludes at Jerez on Saturday, with more fine weather forecast

I wonder what caused it to stop on circuit, run out of fuel? 1 second quicker so perhaps testing on light fuel load. Can't wait for the season to start.

some more meaningless numbers for the all new whiny speedy to complain about

Taking the times from http://www.msfree.gr/ms.php?id=10807 and then averaging them (adding together and dividing by number of timed laps) you get the following results:

    Driver-----------Time-----Timed Laps

    Button----------01:23.1---95
    Alonso----------01:23.7---118

World champion Jenson Button laid down a marker by finishing the final day of testing in Jerez at the top of the timesheets.

Only four days of pre-season running now remain before the start of the season, and just like Lewis Hamilton did last week, Button sent a warning to his competitors by clocking the fastest lap on a short run. More indicative of the McLaren's race pace were a series of consistent times pumped out by Button over longer stints. His laps appeared to rival that of Fernando Alonso's Ferrari, but without knowing the fuel loads they were running, little can be read into the times. Button's was the fastest lap of the last two weeks at the Spanish circuit, but it's worth remembering that Bridgestone also brought the faster soft-compound tyre to this test that was not available last week.

Robert Kubica proved the pace of the Renault by setting the second fastest time. He recorded his best lap while completing a seven lap run and then went on to focus on longer stints, one of which appeared to be on a very heavy fuel load. Kamui Kobayashi was third fastest in the Sauber after the team solved its fuel system problem it had yesterday. He racked up 117 laps despite causing a red flag when the car stopped on track in the first hour.

Force India's Tonio Liuzzi was fourth fastest followed by the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg and Alonso's Ferrari. Masses of fans turned out to watch the Spaniard and he did not disappoint, completing 133 laps in total. His compatriot Jaime Alguersuari was seventh fastest in the Toro Rosso, ahead of sister team Red Bull, which had Mark Webber on duty.

Webber caused a Red Flag midway through the day and the team performed a precautionary engine change before sending him back out. Williams' Nico Hulkenberg put plenty of mileage on the FW32 again, but had his running cut short when he stopped on the main straight in the final hour and didn't re-emerge from the pits.

Virgin had another difficult day, completing just 27 laps with Timo Glock at the wheel. The team did not reveal the source of the problems, although it was rumoured that it was struggling with its hydraulics system. There was a silver lining, however, in that the VR-01's best lap was a second faster than rivals Lotus, who had Jarno Trulli at the wheel. It was Trulli's first chance to drive the new T127 and the team announced its pleasure in racking up a massive 144 laps (over two race distances) with no major problems.

i have little doubt that all the teams that have tested have tried both full loads, medium loads and qualifying.

so...if a car has been nowhere near the quickest times, i'd say you'll never see them at the front. we all know qualifying is incredibly important when it comes to race results, so you can't discount the fastest times. contrary to the opinion of some, i think the times potentially mean a lot.

remember last year when the brawn was fast and everyone said 'it's only testing...it means nothing'? they were sort of wrong then too.

it means plenty. no one is grandstanding or sandbagging...there's just no time.

Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg will kick off the final Formula 1 pre-season test at Barcelona this week as teams make their final preparations ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

With just four days of testing remaining prior to the first race of the 2010 campaign, all nine current teams plus new outfits Virgin Racing and Lotus will attend the test that runs from Thursday until Sunday at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Although not all teams have finalised their driver plans for this week's test, most of them have now confirmed how they will split their test duties.

McLaren has decided to alternate its drivers over the course of the four days. Button will drive on the Thursday and Saturday of the test, while team-mate Lewis Hamilton will test on the Friday and Sunday.

Mercedes GP has opted for a similar tactic for its two drivers, with Rosberg driving on the first and third day, and Michael Schumacher taking the wheel on the other two days.

Ferrari is to run Alonso on the first two days of the test, while Felipe Massa will round off Ferrari's preparations by testing on Saturday and Sunday.

The other teams that have so far confirmed their line-ups are also giving both their drivers two successive days.

Williams will run Nico Hulkenberg on the first two days before he hands over to Rubens Barrichello, Renault will run Vitaly Petrov on the first days before Robert Kubica takes over, while Vitantonio Liuzzi kicks off Force India's testing for the first two days before Adrian Sutil gets back in the car.

AUTOSPORT.com will again bring full live coverage of the Barcelona test from Thursday
