Two pictures, the one with the highlighted silver tubing is a 2010 car, the other with just black tubing is a 2012.
Question is why was this changed?..I am sure some bright spark will be able to spot what those pipes/tubes carry, but on the 2010 car it seems like they had some form of insulation/heat dispening lagging?, and then on the 2012 its disappeared.
I have looked at many pics and this seems the case that the silver bits only appear on 2010 cars, thereafter they disappear.
As I say trivia really, but intrigued as to what the change was for, maybe upgraded the tubes or whatever they are so no longer needed a heat reflecting layer?...As you may have noticed I am not the best with the oily bits, but would like to find out bit more about this from some knowledgable types on here ( hopefully )

I love trivial stuff like this.

I can't tell you what these tubes carry but the physics is that the silvery surface will reflect heat and allow more of the heat within to be conducted to the tube's anchor points, which could be heat sinks. As for the reason for the change, maybe they ran out of the silvery stuff and it doesn't matter anyway.

This is much more likely than anything

I would guess on a car that pays so much attention to detail, something as "unfinished" as cheap heat wrap is unsightly.

Ferrari probobly assumed the lines wouldn't fail within warranty period, therefore removing the heat shielding not only saves money, but makes the highly visible engine bay more pleasant to look at.

My 2011 looks like the 12 engine bay. Doesn't have that sliver heat wrap.

Curious now, I checked my August 2010 build engine bay. It is neither of the above photos. What I observe is black with a thin (1/2") segment of what looks like silver wrap. So evidently there is not much consistency.

They may have put the heat shield on because they weren't sure if it was needed or not, and subsequent testing or experience revealed that it was unnecessary; or a supplier may have come in with a new material for the hose that had better heat tolerance, obviating the need for the heat shield. Being Ferrari, they may have sought a lighter weight solution but not had time to implement it before production started.

While you're at it, note that they've quit plating the latch.

In the industry, we call this a "cost reduction".
