Thoughts? Anyone have both? I know they are very different cars, but just wanted to hear some opinions / cost of maintenance/repairs? I’ve narrowed down my search to these two cars, obviously I can move up or down a year.

Funny you ask this. A few months ago I was looking at LP 560 Spyders and 430 Spiders. Drove both and actually preferred the LP. However, I then realised it wasn’t a massive jump to a 458 Italia. It is fair to say that in my opinion the 458 is considerably better in every way. 458 is faster, the gearbox is light years better (plus the LP clutch will need changing), the car is better balanced and more precise, you feel part of the car (I have the carbon race seats), it’s much more modern inside and out and the cabin and trunk are roomier. The only aspect that the LP even gets close is the sound (which is awesome).

On running costs ... i bought a 2012 with 2yrs warranty, breakdown and servicing. Everything I have read suggests that shocks are the main weakness. Also if you intend to track it (which I don’t) then brakes will get very expensive! For me; tyres should be my main cost and quite reasonable.

The LP’s seem to reasonably well built. Clutches and services (more than 458 services) are the main costs from what I’ve read.

Both are great cars and if you end up with an LP I’m sure it will be a lot of fun.

I had the choice and it was a very easy decision for me; I bought the 458 and would again.

Do you have shock cost? I need to stay in the 2011 range and won’t be getting a warranty. 458 is already a huge jump I started with 08 Gallardos on my initial search. Lol

I believe they are just over £1000 each shock. Just make sure you have the car Inspected and ask specifically about the shocks. I believe that there are places that can rebuild at a more respectable price.

I would say that the costs surrounding the cars are very similar, but one is a Ferrari, and that is the exact reason why you should chose it. As we know, unless its a special editon, lambos tend to lose more money, don't drive as nice and tend to be less reliable. I don't think that a Gallardo is nearly as good-looking as a 458 and why choose a lambo V10, when you could drive a Ferrari V8?
