Hi folks, newbie to this forum, but, no newbie to cars or working on them. I have been thinking about buying an FF, and had a chance to rent a 2011 FF with 35k miles on it. I own a 2018 McLaren 720S, and recently sold a 2020 Corvette Stingray, both have true DCTs, so I am comparing the FF's 2011 tech to them. The Mac and Vette transaxles are both smooth as butter, flawless, and in Auto-shift mode, at slower speeds, shift smooth like a Honda Accord automatic. The FF, not so much when I drove it. So I am asking what is normal and what is an issue.

1] I noticed right off the bat, the car would sometimes hestitate and clunk into 2nd gear, from a start in 1st, or kind of buck the speed a bit and then get 2nd. Once in 2nd, it would go thru the rest of the gears smoothly as expected. This "seemed" to happen mostly in parking lots where I might have the steering turned a bit to one side or the other as I was starting off in 1st. In any case, every single time I tried to turn on my phone to video record it, I could not get it to reproduce, of course.

2] on a windy mountain road, once I got the car working a bit (but not even close to overheating) the trans went into a mode where it only shifted between 2-4-6 and reverse, but would skip 1-3-5-7. Also, I had no transmission warning light, no check engine light. No warnings at all. I looked this up on the forum

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/sigh-gearbox-light-on-lost-reverse-and-even-gears.568535/

and found the 1-3-5-7 problem, where some people don't even get reverse. Once the car cooled down, the next morning, no such issues, I had all 7 gears and reverse.

Question is: I know from reading, that the 2-4-6 issue probably is a gearbox sensor and the car needs maintenance/repair, but my question is, is the 1-2 clunk or hesitation part of that same DCT issue, or is it just a fact of life, and the way the FF DTC transaxle works sometimes? Do you FF owners just live with the DCT shifting rough at low speeds, sometimes?

no the lag coming into second gear is normal. mine did it from new, and still does it after having DCT and PTU replaced. i thought it was an oem ecu issue but even with my novitec ecu map it still happens.

    Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

So I guess, if any GT4C Lusso owners are reading this,

1] do they have that same low-speed shifting issue?

2] and while I am at it, how about the DCT sensor that goes bad and forces you into even or odd gears-only?

All DCT equipped cars will suffer a speed or temp sensor failure at some stage. It’s a question of when, not if.

Lusso owners are no more or less immune from it.

Why do we let Ferrari get away with it? :(
