many are too critical about schumi, i just enjoy watching him back and fighting on track a fairly good race and better alonzo deliver the win but sad to see webber not allowed to take the 2nd place
I'm going to be a bit tough here but... why do we even CARE what Schumi does anymore since he's become just a mid pack driver? Yes, he was a great driver. Is he still? Maybe. But since returning he's just another guy fighting for the last points. Most of the time, he's been out performed by his younger team mate. ' Let Schumi run. It's what he wants to do. He's the Gordi Howe of F1 racing. He deserves our respect but to be honest, his time has come and gone. Arguing about the guy is like arguing if Lotus is going to get 14th or 18th place next race. Lotus won in 1970's. I don't see anyone comparing that with their performance lately.
Well, if you were a Lotus fan, where they come might be of great interest to you. You might even enjoy watching them fight, if not with other teams, at least between team mates. You can't ALWAYS back the winner, but you can enjoy watching your team play just the same.
Oh, I totally agree. But it seems the pro- and anti- Schumi forces break out into the same arguments all the time when he's just a mid pack driver and to be honest, there's a lot of other drivers more interesting to root for or against.
well obviously you can't talk for everyone else on that...clearly some people don't agree...which is their right, of course. I enjoy watching his progress and cringe when he screws up.
That's the excuse of every driver. It's partially true, but it doesn't explain why his partner does better than him rather consisitently.
I don't know if anyone of you noticed that RedBull stated to Mark Webber he should stay behind Vettel in the end of the race. Teamorders anyone?
I see what you are saying. A top car elevates very good drivers, but a very good driver cannot elevate a crap car outside of happy happenstance and the good givings of lady luck. I love Schumi, but it's clear he is done. He's very fast in individual sectors and can drop a fastest lap here and there, but he no longer has the ability to knit together a race distance performance worthy of a podium. If he ever gets another podium, it will be due to factors other than his driving skill. Rosberg has been wringing his neck for the last two years, and Rosberg is a solid mid-pack Tier 2 driver, nothing more, nothing less. He should call it a day because he's been there and done that (and we have all seen this and seen that), but he's taking up a seat that should go to a new driver hungry for mixing it up in a somewhat competitive car. Yeah, I know all of you are calling for Verstappen to take his seat but it should go to someone younger and champing at the bit.
why should he call it a day? He obviously enjoys driving better than retirement. Say what you like about him, but he's far from the worst driver out there, and certainly closer to his team mate than some others are.
it was agreed before the race with all the drivers that a 10 second stop and go would be applied here. Nothing personal against Schumi. Even the commentators had it written in their pre race notes and made reference to it. Now whether or not he should have been penalised is another question, Mansell when interviewed said it was due to Schumi being entirely behind the other driver and losing control into the rear of another car which was entirely avoidable and not part of a race manoeuvre. Schumi and his team admitted Schumi had got it wrong.
http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/7030858/Webber-Not-Fine-With-Bull-Team-Orders Title says it all. Good for him. He deserved 2nd. Sounds like he was complying at the end though?
It's clear from the BBC broadcast that Eddie Jordan hasn't bought a stitch of new clothes since the summer of 1963. For the love of Christ, someone zip-tie his neck shut. Also, someone please toss Coulthard off of a cliff. He adds nothing to the Beeb's broadcast. I know the guy is Scottish, but I've never heard any other Scot or anyone else mangle pronunciation as he does. Filipee. Cares. Ferdlardlee. Every time I hear him pronounce Massa's first name, I envision some big Russian fellow knocking Couthard's teeth into his arshole and then tossing his dying carcass into a giant blender.
Why? Because compared to Rosberg, he sucks. Rosberg is what Massa whould be if Massa had 15% more talent. Getting beat by Rosberg is like Mike Tyson getting his ass kicked by an MMA fighter that's eight years old and weighs 51 pounds with shoes on.
Then how do you explain MS elevating a crap car when he first got to Ferrari? Is the missing piece Jean Todt?
I have a roll of Oreo's around here somewhere Looks like Mark Webber wasn't all too pleased with the teamorders: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/264031/i-tried-to-pass-vettel-insists-webber/
Incorrect and backwards. A top car elevates average drivers. A very good driver CAN elevate cr@p cars. Vettel did it before he drove for RedBull. Alonso did it for Minardi with some great drives and yes MS did it very well in his early years for Ferrari (and previously with Benetton). Qualifying is where you really see this because a top driver is able to find something that an average driver can't. This is what frustrates me with Webber. He is actually very fast and a great qualifier but then throws it away with rubbish starts, almost every single time. Might as well start in the pits ... He also needs a lap or so to get in the grove, this is simply too long. Pete
+1 Webber is pole winner and never much or consistently a race winner from pole. He has to have the worst record. Another one this weekend to boot.
Ham considers Nico one of the top 3 drivers on the grid, as do many others. I don't see Nico as an exciting driver who takes any chances though. Schu is undoubtedly all or nothing and drives the car far better on race pace. I agree with you that Schu does have stronger sector times but has been having a real problem knitting everything together for some reason. It's like he has two brilliant sectors which Nico could never in his wildest dreams touch and then Schu hits the throttle early coming out of some mundane slow corner losing a couple tenths. It's madenning, but we see the talent is the point and Nico is certainly not on that level but he is definitely more consistent.
