Thanks for that, I really enjoyed it. Amazing to see two F1 World Champs, 40 yrs apart talking about their experiences at Spa and checking out each others race cars. I can imagine in another 40 yrs time Alonso talking to a future Ferrari F1 World Champ in a similar video and comparing race cars also. Great stuff and I am looking forward to race day.

it's clever advertising by Shell. They're aiming at people who are too dim to work out that the "conversation" was entirely scripted. Alonso was probably reading off a teleprompter for his "comments" to camera. The two of them (Alonso and Surtees) would only have been in the same room for 3 minutes while they did the "noddy" shots.

http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2011/08/alonso-effusive-in-praise-for-schumacher-massa-ducks-a-pr-gaffe/ With this weekend being the 20th anniversary of Michael Schumachers debut in F1, there have been tributes aplenty from fellow drivers but none more effusive than from his great rival of the mid 2000s, Fernando Alonso. I have great respect for him, hes one of the greatest or the greatest in our sport, said Alonso. The numbers are there and impossible to repeat for us. Its been a great pleasure to drive with him all these years. I will always remember all the battles with him. It was a priviledge to drive against Michael Schumacher. He decided to stop and then come back and now the car is not competitive enough for him to win races, but Im sure he is still enjoying. There are some criticisms about his results now but I dont agree with them. Michael was watching the races at home three years ago, now hes seventh or ninth, but Im sure he is happy every morning because he is racing in F1. Its what he wants to do; hes a driver. Twenty years are a lot. If I think of myself it would be 2021 and I dont think I can do that! I want to congratulate him for these 20 years and tell him its a pleasure to race against him. The Spaniard wasnt always so gushing. In 2006 when Schumacher spun during qualifying in Monaco, preventing his rival from taking pole from him, Alonso told Mark Webber at dinner that if the stewards did not punish Schumacher he would lie down on the grid in front of Schumachers car to symbolise that the German rides all over the other drivers. In the event this was not necessary as the stewards ruled that Schumacher had spun on purpose and put him at the back of the grid. Perhaps thinking of this and other moments he wishes hadnt happened, Schumacher was in philosophical mood this afternoon, Taking the 20 years, taking everything that Ive been doing . certainly, going backwards, I would do certain things differently, but then in life you have to make some mistakes in order to understand it is a mistake and to sort of set your guidelines.. All in all, I guess the vest that Im wearing, that Im wearing inside me, is pretty white, and Im pretty happy about this. I dont have many regrets and overall, I certainly feel very excited and proud of what has happened. Earlier he had said, The rulebook always leaves you certain grey zones and leaves you clear guidelines at some moments. You have always to adapt to those guidelines and to those changes and thats obviously the limits that you search for and occasionally you may overstep (those limits) and you may take the penalty for it. There was a strong show of support and respect for Schumacher from his fellow drivers today. Sebastian Vettel called him his childhood hero. Realising he was getting too gushing, he changed tack and said, I think hes an OK driver! Schumachers former team mate Felipe Massa spoke about when he was a boy in Brazil and Schumacher seemed to him to be a phenomenon, taking on and beating the national hero Ayrton Senna in 1994. He was first in the championship and I remember Michael very strong and he became very famous in Brazil because he was a young guy who was already quicker than Ayrton, said Massa. I asked him to clarify this point; did he really mean to say that in his opinion Schumacher was quicker than Senna? He took the opportunity to clarify; I meant he was already breaking Sennas balls, laughed the Brazilian. Senna had more pole positions but Michael was ahead in the championship. I dont believe Michael was quicker than Senna, no. I think Senna was the most incredible qualifier ever, but I put both on the same level (in terms of speed).
and another one........ http://www.ferrari.com/English/Formula1/News/Headlines/Pages/110825_F1_Montezemolo-in-Maranello-Thank-you-Michael-and-very-best-wishes.aspx?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+mygp%2Fferrari%2Fferrarif1+%28Ferrari+-+Ferrari+World+%28F1+News%29%29 Maranello, 25 August The Belgian Grand Prix weekend gets underway today, while back at Ferrari work continues apace, both on the racing side and on the commercial front. President Luca di Montezemolo arrived in Maranello this morning to get through a long list of meetings. First off, it will fall to Team Principal Stefano Domenicali to give an overview of the current Formula 1 situation, which involves going through a lot of points, starting in the very short term with the technical evolution of the 150º Italia, along with the mid and long-term plans, which means looking at the design project for the car that will tackle the 2012 season. On this subject, Domenicali already made clear over the past few days that the number one priority will be to ensure it is competitive at the highest level, right from the very first race. In the afternoon, Montezemolo will meet Managing Director Amedeo Felisa: on the agenda will be the launch of the 458 Spider, which will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September, as well as the state of play of future Ferrari cars. The team arrived in Spa late on Wednesday afternoon and today, the engineers and drivers are already at the track to go through the job sheet for the race weekend. Here too there is plenty going on, as Fridays three hours of free practice has now become the time to concentrate chiefly on evaluating new technical solutions as they get their first track test. The weather is always an unknown factor and the forecast for tomorrow is not that encouraging, but as usual at Spa, one will have to make a virtue out of necessity. This twelfth round of the Formula 1 World Championship is a special occasion for one driver in particular. It was at this very track, on 25th August, twenty years ago, that a young driver made his debut in this the highest level of motor sport. He would go on to rewrite the record books and to leave an indelible mark on the history of Formula 1 and of Ferrari. His name? Michael Schumacher. Michael was and will always be one of the most important figures in the history of Ferrari and he will always be in the hearts of all the men and women who work in Maranello and of all fans of the Prancing Horse, Luca di Montezemolo told www.ferrari.com. A large part of those twenty years of Formula 1 were spent with us. Together, we achieved results that will be difficult to repeat. His passion for racing is incredible, as is the effort he puts into it, along with the courage and determination he has always demonstrated, which won him the affection of us all. On behalf of everyone at Ferrari I wish to thank him for everything he did for us and I send him all our best wishes for this, his twentieth anniversary in the greatest sport in the world. We have prepared a little something to mark this occasion, announced Team Principal Stefano Domenicali. Even if today, he is our rival on the race track, Michael is still a friend and there is no way it could be any different, given everything we have shared over all these years, growing together. When I look at his career statistics, especially those established during his long time spent at Ferrari, I realise just how extraordinary they are. In fact I imagine they will never be repeated. I have so many personal memories linked to him, some of them actually to do with this circuit, as well as other particularly enjoyable ones, which makes it very difficult for me to single out any one in particular. I prefer to think of the future, which I am sure will also produce some very satisfying moments. Despite the usual frantic activity, typical of a Grand Prix weekend, there will no doubt be time for many of the Ferrari crew who worked alongside Michael at the race track to have a quick chat with him, as in fact has been the case since the German decided to return to racing last year and, who knows, there might even be the odd surprise in store for him.
