It's all open to interpretation I know, but my interpretation fits with the behaviour he's exhibited since he arrived in F1.

Im with you mate, I reckon it was meant as a joke. He was VERY quick to say it was an Ali-G thing. I reckon he planned to say that well before the media interviewed him. Saying it with a straight face, then adding a quick chuckle and goes onto the Ali-G comment as IanB suggests because "he realises how that's going to sound" is a bit far fetched. I dont think he is THAT quick witted. Did he say it, did not get a giggle/reaction from the interviewer ...........so a milli second later he chuckles himself and says it's an Ali-G thing? I doubt it, was a joke from the start if you ask me. He probably didnt get the reaction he wanted from the media. I think I would have chuckled with him as I hear "it's because im black" here all the time. But yes, we can all interpret anyway we like.
