the "American Monaco GP" (big grain of salt ;)) is this weekend. I'll be there tomorrow and Sunday with a few hundred thousand of my closest friends :D beautiful weather expected for the weekend.

ALMS and Indycar are competing, along with the associated support series. lots of on-track action, including the Risi and ESM 458's

Indycar has a solid entry list, seen here: http://www.indycar.com:8080/var/assets/LB_EntryListICS.pdf

Hinchcliffe has what it takes to be successful in motor racing--funding.

You're gonna have to go back to the 70's if you're gonna talk Hogan as the car owner.

yeah, he was great in CanAm and F5000. decent success with Rahal as well. then a series of bad years as a mid-to-backmarker team.

'99 was a good year, with Helio and the Lola (although they had the wrong engine); Carl closed the team after that year and he passed away in '01.

cool article about him from SPEED a while back.

    nice article, Chas.

This about sums up sports in general today:

'The harsh realities of how the game was now played didn’t fit Carl’s good natured intentions. After decades of warmth and less formal racing, the new, harder edged IndyCar series stopped being fun. The code of conduct he expected everyone to uphold had been replaced by dealings that no longer traded in honor or respect. Motorsports was meant to be a sanctuary from the aggravations of running his trucking company, but now the lines had been completely blurred. '

I love the history of this place. how many venues have hosted F1, CART, and IRL?

Risi just posted that Extreme Speed loaned them a rear wing. Pretty cool stuff. Can't wait for the race to start. I'm deskbound today, so radiolemans will help me through. :)

I'm standing in turn 1 as the ALMS cars go out to grid.

a prototype rolls by and the guy next to me says "what the hell is THAT!?!"

I told him it was the new Mustang :)

only fair since this morning I had to tell someone that a new 458 (road car) was a Ferrari and not a Mustang.

Checkered flag under yellow. Good drive by AMR, and nice catch-up job by Risi! Pretty good action.
