Monaco is always six weeks after Easter. The rest of the F1 calendar is built around Monaco.

And Easter is the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox.

    well that's no fun!

Indeed ... the the Monaco Grand Prix will always be the seventh Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox (six weeks after Easter Sunday).

Seriously, i'll have to look at the full moon calendar for 2011.

By the way, this is no joke ... it really is the calendar for Monaco, every year.

Happy to be on ferrarichat :)

EDIT : well here's the way I see the 2011 calendar:

    Spring Equinox 2011 : March 20
First full moon after spring equinox : April 17 (the previous one was March 19th, just missed it)
Easter Sunday : April 24 (quite late in the year, due to that full moon schedule)
Monaco Grand Prix : June 5 (quite late, because Easter is so late)

But ... I wouldn't recommend booking flights & hotels, until we get some verification.

Last year JKnight pointed to me the link Monaco page and there was the contract dates for the F1 and the Old F1 cars.
I booked Nice for the 19~ 23 and scheduled my Ferrari Factory tour for May 25.

When the schedule came out because Canada was put back on the schedule the F1 team association wanted 2 weeks to get to Turkey after Monaco, Monaco was rescheduled to 16th of May.

could very well be that June 5th is simply too late in the season, and Monaco will be pulled back into May.

sorry, i know it's little help to the original poster :(

Don't forget that this year they tried to screw everyone by shifting a week or two after the official date was announced......

Yes, the '11 GP is scheduled for May 29, so that's probably going to be the date, but race tickets don't go on sale until early December anyway, so . . .
Your bigger problem is lining up a hotel room, assuming you want to stay in MC, as opposed to coming in from a nearby town in France or Italy. If you want to stay in MC, start contacting hotels ASAP.
For (MUCH) more info, search "Monaco GP" and similar terms here on FChat, as I've attended every year since '92 and opined at great (too much?) length on this subject. Feel free to contact me privately if there's anything I can do after you've read those previous posts.

paddock club is probably still available. probably what, $6000/person for the weekend? can't get much better than that.

i'm sure folks here will have the advice on where to sit but i'm sure you are going to have to contact an actual ticket agent to see what's still available ...

GP de MC is still scheduled for May 29. The web site for the Automobile Club de Monaco (www.acm.mc ) has been selling tickets since November 16, so I'm not sure what's currently available, but the site is interactive and will show you the open seats in any sections you click on.

Chances are the hotels in Monte Carlo are already booked solid. Try looking in Beausoleil, this is the town directly north of Monte Carlo (Monaco). I stayed there a few years ago, and there are many small hotels, or motels ('pensione') available. It is about a 20 minute walk away from Monte Carlo.

Actually, from Monte Carlo (as opposed to the Condamine, etc.) it's even closer than that. Also check the nearby French town of Cap d'Ail on the western side of Monaco- it too is within easy walking distance, and borders on the Fontvielle area of the Principality.

All hotels were booked (for where I have rewards) when I posted this thread. Maybe next 2012, if I book now.

Just book a room in Nice, and then take the train in. It's way too much of a pain in the ass to try and get a room in Monaco, and the rates during the race are NUTS. Plus, the train ride from Nice is only like 30 minutes, and on race day they double up the trains. Forget about trying to drive in because the tolls are murder, and then you think it's hard finding a room in Monaco, try, just TRY to find parking race day. Get a room in Nice, or even in Cannes then take the train in.

While I agree that rooms in MC are hard to find and very pricey, and that parking is a disaster, if you decide to take the train from Nice be careful- some years they don't put on extra trains, and sometimes the trains are reservation-only. It's not as easy as it used to be, and you may need to wait through several trains to find room unless you come in early, although I've been lucky enough to have a room in-town for many years now so haven't trained in for a long time.
Also, consider taking the helicopter in from the airport in Nice- expensive during race week, but a spectacular view if the weather is clear, and it only takes 6-7 minutes to reach the heliport in the Fontvielle neighborhood in MC.

Most rooms in MC are booked year-to-year for race week- that's how I got one years ago, and I'm loath to give it up since it's cheap and well-located. I suspect it'd be near-impossible to book a room in town using rewards- the hotels generally triple their rates that week, so why would they let you use reward points at that time?

We did the train in '09, but we came in all the way from Grasse. Yeah I know it was way out there, and that is a whole other story. Anyway, it wasn't a problem. We took an early train in and had some breakfast, then took the last train out to Grasse. We were there for the whole race weekend, and the closer you were to race time the crazier it was to try and get on the train. They are PACKED full BIG TIME an hour before and after the race. After the race we had an early dinner then took the train back.

    Oh! One more thing.

About trying to book a room in Cannes. In '09 the Cannes Film Festival was going on that week also. So it may be just has hard to find a room in Cannes. That place was jam packed just as bad. It took us over an hour to drive down the Boulevard de la Croisette, but when we went back later in the week, after everything was over, it was only like a 5-10 minute drive from one end of the beach to the other. If you are coming just for the race I still say Nice is the best bet, maybe even in Antibes, naaaaw, I Nice will be easiest.
