This is what I'm most interested in since my Niners are sitting at home. (again). So who is going where and who would you like to see your team draft? The Niners are at pick 7 and almost for sure are going QB. I actually think they may take the first QB off the board. I'm just not sure who the best is. I am not a fan of Jake Locker I don't think the mental part is there. Probably going to be Cam Newton.

I don't really see Newton as being a dominant QB in the NFL. More like another Vince Young. I'm not sure he actually is ready for the NFL (in his head), he has only played in Div 1 for a year, although obviously is a great talent.

Luck electing to return to Stanford is beyond stupid, IMO. Whether there is a lockout or not, there will almost certainly be limits on compensation early in a players career for 2012 and beyond. Unless he only does this for fun and doesn't need the money he probably threw away millions of dollars.

I agree tundra. Luck staying cost him a huge amount of money. When you are almost a sure #1 overall pick you go into the draft. I agree about Newton too. He has definatly not proven his maturity. The Niners almost certianly will draft a QB. I don't think Carolina should go QB at the 1.

No sophomore *QB* has ever left early and amounted to much, at least none that I am aware of. I would have stayed in school also if I was him, but that's just me.
Luck will make his money no matter when or where he goes, I don't think I would have wanted to go to Carolina, I don't think the owner will build a team around him, I mean, Richardson let Peppers go, how dumb was that?

PS - if you declare early just for the money, then you probably should re-think your competitive attitude.
I mean, NONE of us are in that position, but would you be happy with a lot of money on a losing franchise, or with almost as much money but on a better franchise?

I know most will say 'mo money', but none of us have the experience of being in the position of being drafted into the NFL, so we really can't identify.

I look at Cam Newton and see J'Marcus Russell - a man among boys in COLLEGE, but he's gonna be toast in the NFL.
    We'll see.

More than likely the difference between being drafted #1 in 2011 and #1 in 2012 will be a significant difference. One of the owners main goals of this game of chicken is to limit the amount paid to unproven players. These days a #1 pick can be assured of many millions of dollars before he even suits up. Owners want that to be a figure more in line with the pay scale of say, 10-15 years ago.

That does not mean they will make it up with higher salaries later. I don't see the logic that you might make $3M/year your first five years and are great, here is $20M per annum for the next five. It will be more like...$3M first five years and now get $12M a year for the next five. For the players drafted this year where higher salaries are possible it will be say $7M for first five years and still get "only" $12M for the next five years.

For that matter, there is nothing that says Luck will not go the way of Ty Detmer. Win the Heisman his junior year, have a mediocre senior year and then was drafted in the ninth round. All Luck has to do is have a mid-season slump, or an injury, and his stock will fall faster than the resale of a new Jaguar.

Strike while the iron is hot, for Luck it can only cool off.

Fairley (Auburn) seems to be the front-runner #1 overall selection. Any thoughts to this? He's a beast no doubt. Not sure what front-office/personnel evaluators may think of his behavior & such (ie. isolated incidents or actual pattern of behavior).

Luck (Stanford) should've gone pro', I can't even believe I'm saying this. I mean it from a payday point of view. Obviously, developmentally another season at Stanford would be good for him (or just about any redshirt soph. QB). But w/ Harbaugh leaving & likely taking his coordinators/staff, a lot of uncertainty creeps in. Not to mention, he'd likely be sitting at least a season or perhaps 2 seasons anyways in the NFL.

I'm sure Elway would L-O-V-E to deep'six Tebow & draft/develop Luck... at least I would, if I was in Elway's boots!

And you think Cam is mentally OK?
Have you read ANYTHING about that guy?
He may be a man among boys - in college, but he will have his ass handed to him in the pros. He may perform better than J'Marcus, maybe as good as Vince, but he is not a savior to any team.

And you guys, like I said, Luck isn't ready.
Most of you saw him ONLY in a bowl game and that's it.
Oh - and the scouts all raved about Ryan Leaf too.

And as far as Tebow goes, why is he so bad?
I was pretty down on him too, but he's doing fair for the PT he has.
The difference between Tim and Cam is all mental, I think Cam has the mentality of a 15 yr old.

There is more to the game than money, but it's obvious you guys don't see it that way, but that's fine, you are entitled to your opinions.

Oh - and if Luck has a 'bad' season and 'falls' in the draft, if he is any good at all that means he will 'fall' to a decent team, or at least one that is not 3-13.
