Thank you for posting your usual, impressive statistics, f328nvl. No New year's celebration is complete without it! The presentation of the data also seems to get better for each year. It is now very clear and easy to understand for the layman, I think. Regarding the 1989 "bubble" prices being exceeded: I remember looking at your statistics two years ago, and saying to myself: It is now only a question of when, not if, 1989 prices will be surpassed. Apparently, that "when" is now.
Thanks. Last year I had the strange experience of having my own work handed to me by a dealer I was chatting with. We were talking about how he saw the market moving when he handed me my own analysis, saying that it was good support for Dinos as an investment. It's just a pity I didn't buy one when I started looking at them. They were £50-75k and I felt at that time I wouldn't spend a penny more than £70k for the best example! Ho hum.....
The 1989 price bubble hasn't technically been breached in the UK as yet. If you take inflation into account from 1989 to 2012 then you need to see a sales price of over £375k to match the 1989 price in real terms as inflation has averaged 3.2% over that period.
There's a bit more about where it all came from and some commentary on my blog here; http://rjmghome.blogspot.co.uk/#!/2013/01/ferrari-246-dino-market-2012-review.html Image Unavailable, Please Login
I met a gentleman in SC USA just before Christmas who has a 246 GT rhd in primer and ready to be put back together. Says he has owned it for 28 years. It's apart, with all the bits. He wants to sell it. Price check?
