2012 458 skipping gears on downshift?

    Hi Guys,

    I test drove a 2012 458 with 23k miles today that is for sale locally. Upon paddle downshifting from 7th gear, the car would skip 6th gear and 4th gear and only engage 5th and 3rd gear when using the paddles. The selling dealer claims that 458's do that to maintain stability. I don't believe that to be accurate, do you?

    Most likely a DCT position sensor issue if odd or even gears are not engaging.

    This is definitely not a thing. One pull on the shifter downshifts one gear, it does not skip gears. If I want to go from 7 to 5 I can pull the paddle twice in quick succession and it will go down two gears, but one pull shouldn't skip gears.
