Good race. Vettel seems to haven really come to life and is firmly in control. I was a little disappointed the Fernando and Massa couldn't take the fight to Webber so both red cars could get on the podium, but at least they showed strong. I'm especially happy to see Massa racing like he wants to be there. Overall, not a bad day considering Ferrari are clearly not the fastest car. The last few races should be interesting. Hopefully Ferrari has something up its sleeve and can get some speed in the car and fight until the end.

I'd like to think you'd say that if Hamilton was in Vettels position right now...;)

    Your right BTW..

Okay, let's say... MOST of them are equally likeable :D Actually, I love the current situation. My two favourite drivers duking it out for the championship, perfect! :)

Well, a dull race but for a few figts, the "your to close to Alonso" was priceless, lololo, today it even seemed like a race before HUngy 2009, when Felipe was clearly faster than Fernando....but i must say, to keep Massa behind was the right decision, every point counts and Alonso is in serious trouble to get the title, so he could not afford to lose thier placed...it sucked bit it was the correct decision, even if i hated it.....If Massa doesn´t wan´t to be in this position, he must drive like this from the begining of the year, if he has more points thann Alonso nobody will ask him to step back. I really hope the man was woken up for good!

Overall it was not a boring race and I think it is great we have such a close battle for the WDC. Once again Merc was disappointing which makes me wonder what is going thru Hamiltons mind concerning his chances next season of just winning a race? Personaly I am ready for the new turbo era and I wonder if those reports/comments are just smoke and mirrors and Honda will return as an engine supplier in 2014 or 2015?

I was quite impressed with the quality of the grid girls. :D

ps, I was rather annoyed that Ferrari felt they needed to tell Massa to drop back one more sec behind Alonso though. I think Massa has enough common sense to know not to bring the fight to Alonso at this point in the championship fight. Kudos to Massa for another good showing and to Alonso for supporting him for another extension.

If if if. If the alternator stayed together in Valencia alone, and neither of the things happened in spa and suzuka, vettel would be ahead in points.

Your reasoning fails to make sense to me. An alternator is something entirely different to an engine or gearbox, as you can't just spot wear on it or measure it's mileage.

Likely Ham wanted out of McLaren at all costs and Mercedes were the only ones that would have him.

Quite possible and the $100M/3yr contract does not hurt either. Change is a good thing and there is no telling what kind of car Merc will have in store for 2013 and they are at the forefront of developement for the new turbo engine era. This could turnout to have been a very wise move for Hammys motivation and foresight.

They´ve changed the specification of the alternator after the failures, so they know that it was not a random issue. Supposing that there are such things like random issues.

Anyway, I´m not complaining. Even without Alonso´s DNF, Vettel probably would win the WDC anyway, because now he´s got enough speed to close a 30 points gap in the 4 remaining races. And that´s fair. But with that speed and that bit of extra luck, this season finale is going to be a bore.

That has nothing to do with good or bad luck. You´ve answered to yourself here.

Glad to see that Massa finally has found some speed. Let´s hope he can keep this form.

+1 Bad luck, pure & simple! These things are highly stressed and will sometimes break - "that's racing!"

Same thing applies to engines & 'boxes - They (very) occasionally break these days and unless due to abuse (over-rev used to do it in the old days) are remarkably resilient and reliable. When one does break, it's just bad luck.

+1 Well said Florian! I can't believe the naysayers with their "boring" and "it's all over" comments. Nobody, not the Cans nor anyone else has a clear advantage - We've seen Maccy-L go from hero to zero & back in less races than remain. We've seen Fred fight for every last point and he remains a mere 4 points in arrears. This thing has a way to go yet. Hopefully, it'll come down to the last race and a head to head between 'em. Fabulous stuff!

    Cheers,
    Ian

My bad. Thanks for the correction. Still less than the difference between 1st and 2nd.

There's a long way to go yet.....

    Cheers,
    Ian
