I think they should have stayed out longer on the second set. So did the commentators :) The commentators and me said it in one mouth.... them to the viewers and me to my bro... when Ferrari pulled him in. Too early, the softs won't last to finish with full grip.

So they should have kept him out another 5-6 laps.

If they had done that, FA would have come out behind MW. Webber was closing to the pit lane delta.

Ferrari may have pitted early after the first stint because they feared the tires were about to fall off the cliff (again!). SPEED made reference that the teams were relying on the drivers for input on degradation since their telemetry wasn't giving enough warning. Maybe Alonso made the call himself.
I don't have access to the data but how do Webber's last stint times compare to Fernando's on hards?

Must say that Webber drove a fantastic GP and earned a well deserved win. Massa also coming to terms with a great 4th place.

It looks like the Ferrari is finally getting somewhere now, race pace wise at least. Red Bull has taken top spot it seems though.

I wonder if Lotus can get a bit more pace, they seem to be level with Mercedes and Mclaren, if not a tiny bit quicker than them. Raikkonen had some bad luck in the beginning of the race, he may have gotten 3rd of 4th IMO.

I've no idea where Vettel came from to take 3rd all of a sudden!

While Webber flew in the last stint Seb made up ground as well.

Actually, that's not correct; He was fined and given a "reprimand" according to Autosport. May be splitting hairs, but a reprimand suggests it's over with, whereas "probation" would indeed mean he's on very thin ice.

    He's also pushing back today;

    ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Amazing what the team will overlook if you bring enough dough ;)
Sooner or later the officials will have to take more serious note of the number of accidents the Rev seems to be present at.

    +1 ;)

I love your terminology there; "He seems to be present at many accidents!" ;)

In all seriousness, if he keeps breaking cars the dough doesn't last that long. And Sir Frank is notorious for not being terribly patient in such situations by all accounts...... I'm sure ~$40MM eases the pain some, but he won't last long if he's present at many more shunts. I'd love to know what his contract has to say on such issues.

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Thanks.
The original quote is attributed to the traffic manager at a taxi company. When a driver brought before the accident board showed that he wasn't at fault the reply was "why were you where an accident was about to happen?"

    :)

Could be an urban myth, but IIRC a "Westerner", sitting in the back of a cab in many (some?) Mid-Eastern countries could be held responsible for any accidents; The theory apparently being the cab wouldn't have been where it was had you not been traveling therein. Ergo, it's your fault and bad things could happen!

    Could be a myth though.........

    Cheers,
    Ian

Maldonado is seriously out of control, he spun off on his own in the first GP, and there have been numerous accidents by this clown this year. He does seem to have speed, but he needs to get a grip and stop crashing into people.

Did he have similar problems in GP2?
Maybe the car is just too powerful for his abilities. Doubt Frank W. would drop him and lose the Citgo money he (or Chavez) brings to the table. His problems raises the question: What would Milka do?

At times. I was never much impressed with him in GP2, and only in his 5th season he started racing like he should have done earlier if he is *that* talented. I rate Perez much higher.

He's inconsistent and will remain to be so. He's just come out to the media saying he won't change his style, despite being put on probation by the FIA. I hope for everyones sake he'll continue his mayhem and we'll soon be done with the arrogant prick.

are you sure? I thought I saw a steady 5 seconds until they crossed the line, at which point FA had already slowed.

I don't even know where to find that info.

What? One of us is confused....I hope it's you!

    1 2 Mark Webber Red Bull Racing-Renault 52 1:25:11.288 2 25
    2 5 Fernando Alonso Ferrari 52 +3.0 secs 1 18
    3 1 Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Racing-Renault 52 +4.8 secs 4 15
    4 6 Felipe Massa Ferrari 52 +9.5 secs 5 12

SV was 1.8 sec behind FA at the finish line. I THINK I saw a constant 5 second from FA to SV for the last few laps apart from the very last one, where FA either slowed down or SV did a blinder.

In other words, as I already said, I got the impression Mark was much faster than FA, but SV wasn't.

Aha. I was confused. But it's your fault :) we only seem to be talking the same language.

No doubt Webber was fastest of the field during the last stints. It's impossible to know for sure if Alonso was losing pace or if everyone just realized that the order wasn't going to change before the flag.

Sorry, but Raikkonen and Grosjean were the two fastest of the field on the last stints, with Kimi clocking 1:34.661 and Grosjean 1:34:884 both at lap 50.

Webber was only 4th fastest, just ahead of Massa on lap 49.

Only a matter of time I guess, since he keeps telling the media he isn't going to change his style of driving.

Anyone know the details of his "reprimand/probation"?

I thought it was a good race. Pity it remained dry. I think Ferrari have definitely improved. They just got caught out in the Pirelli lottery. They have improvise, and finally things are moving forward.

MS looks fired up, despite the car being quite slow.
