They seemed to be rather cautious about the effect of the heat on their tyres; Nico was moderately optimistic. The McLaren boys, on the contrary, and especially JB, said "the hotter, the better".

Ross Brawn said the Merc car had operated in a small sweet spot the conditions were perfect. (I assume he meant temp wise) he said they needed to expand this sweet spot.
(I assume he meant he wants the car to operate in higher temps).

    With Mclaren your probably right.

Don't know if I am right...it's Jenson who said it; Jense was rather confident about Bahrein.

As an aside for today, I think the happiest guy at the end of the race was good'ol Norbert Haugh; did you notice how he was almost lost on the tarmac and looking for his way to the podium? he seemed to have been under some pressure from the Mercedes top management recently; he will feel much better tonight! (probably after some pints...)

I wondered the same thing but the TV feed had him smiling looking at the monitor right before the end of the race.

My guess is he didn't want to be seen as mugging in what should be Nico's moment.

It could have been a Merc 1-2 if not for "that guy", I was pissed off the team made such a silly mistake/error.

+1 He was on the wall when the checkered came out and was obviously almost as happy as Isobel and Norbert with the win - A true team player who didn't want to distract from the young lads effort. He even said he felt bad for the lollipop man and would "give him a hug" later.

Top Gears favorite form of motorsport! But let's not focus on the crashes..... ;)

    Is it on the BBC?

    Cheers,
    Ian

Undoubtedly. W03 was substantially quicker on the prime tires than anyone.

Nico deserved this win. Long time coming.

Merc should have a great baseline for hot weather running and make a good showing in Bahrain now

ITV 4 Ian, it is really good, loads of value for money when you go, loads of races.

I go to watch it at the track near me Oulton park can't wait.

But not to go off track, I may even watch this race later again was a great one.

Every time Remy (Brian) says it's boring, means you have to watch it...:D

A true team player all the way. Just a good guy through and though. I cannot see Alonso or Ham or a number of other drivers doing the same for their team and teammates

Indeed. [slight hijack - Do ITV have anything like the Beeb's iplayer to watch after the event?]

I have many fond memories of Oulton. Is the lake still in the middle?

I suspect he may regret posting that! ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

MS at his best would have had a job to beat Nico today and yesterday.

When Nico put that Q3 blistering lap in, MS on radio ermm not bad..Nico won the whole thing from there.

A 7-world champion is probably not too excited to be photo adornment for a guy getting his virgin win in F1 (especially when the team screwed up his race prospects). I suspect Nico would have wanted him in the photo (so Michael wasn't doing him any favors by being absent), but I can understand his reticence.

Michael's always been good with 'putting on his public face', but I don't see an old guy who's just having fun and happy to be there. He's an unfed lion who wants to feast. Now!

He said 'well done' and in the interview room was gracious and humble to him the entire time. I just don't see how anyone sees fault in this guy. He's just a genuinely good person out ther

Indeed. I'm not sure anyone - Nico, Ross, Schu, any of 'em know quite where that qualy lap came from - Half a second!

Then, Schu made the perfect start to protect him off the line.

    +1

This result has got to make him even hungrier - You know he's already studying the data and working on the next race. He'll be there sooner rather than later IMO.

    Cheers,
    Ian
