Why bother commenting? It was so obviously a typo that I, who usually picks on anything, didn't even bother.
So bitter. The 60th Anniversary display of "Ferrari in Australia" was put on by Ateco ( their idea, they organised it and paid for it). There were a lot of FCA members there as the FCA was asked to provide potential entrants, but it was not an FCA event ( seperate insurance & disclaimers ). Entries ultimately were at the discression of the organiser.....and they certainly had some of their client list in attendance too. With regard to your comment " who knows you" you may have a point, although I don't see the connection to Gillard. There were certainly a lot of people in attendance who I can recall had over the years done something for the club (eg acted on committees, organised national rallies, developed web sites, sponsored the club or hosted events) and I suspect this how these people "did get known". BTW Peter G had nothing to do with the organisation of the event, although he was there. M
My two pet hates (among many): 1. Those who refer to the Ferrari 360 as the F360 (a la F355 or F430... I'm waiting for some nimrod to start referring to the 458 as the F458). 2. Those who refer to the Challenge Stradale or the CS as the '360CS'. As far as i am aware, according to Ferrari, there's no such thing as as '360CS'.
There were a lot of FCA members there as the FCA was asked to provide potential entrants, ......Yes and just how did the FCA go about it !!! My point exactly..!
"There were certainly a lot of people in attendance who I can recall had over the years done something for the club (eg acted on committees, organised national rallies, developed web sites, sponsored the club or hosted events) and I suspect this how these people "did get known". .....so now we are getting somewhere hence the original question. Favours for the boys...!!! Should this have been the criteria of how the FCA went about putting their list together or should it have been to gather the best examples across the country of Ferrari's that best reflected 60 years of the marc and give ALL the members a chance to be involved in a great event..? Look I'm really not fussed either way and certainly not bitter as has been suggested. Never intended to be a matyr or spokesperson for the unheard masses of the FCA and state clubs. I love my car with a passion and happy to attend the various runs and shows that come up and just avoid all the political crap however this sort of thing has happened before and has always dogged the FCA and will no doubt happen again due to the elitist nature of some members. Goes with the territory I guess ! I can assure you there are many who feel as I do. All I have done is shoot my mouth off and asked the same questions that many more are thinking !!!
Oh well. We all have our opinions. I've heard the bs before but it's funny how the people who say it's elitist seem to change their mind as soon as they bother getting to know people and become involved, instead of just sitting back and waiting for others to do everything. My humble opinion, since you asked, stop bleating like a sheep. If you don't like how things at done, join the committee and help. I guarantee you'll do a complete backflip on your view point.
I have to agree with Reddesire. I think it was very dishonest on how the 60th anniversary drive and display was organized. It happened to me on the last 60th anniversary when we had the display at Lygon Street back in 2007. I wasnt even invited to attend and Bobby Zegame was good enough to get my wife and I tickets and be part of it. One spectator last weekend (Grand Prix 2012) actually commented to me and asked me if we where part of the main Ferrari display and he actually told me that the 6 cars we had was much more interesting as we mingled with all the public and answered there 1000s of questions. As for the display of the 60 Ferraris, was it necessary to have 7 x 360s, 7 x Testarossas, 4 x Dinos etc. Most of the cars that were on display, you could go to Zegamis or other up market sports car dealers and see them. It should all be about Ferrari the car and not people with a deep pocket, Enzo Ferrari would turn in his grave if it was possible.
"I guarantee you'll do a complete backflip on your view point"...................................... So just to clarify, your saying that if I join the committee, I too will become elitist and can enjoy the benefits of the privileged few and get top billing in all/any of the top end events such as this..! Really its this sort of mentality that we need to weed out. You're supposed to be on the committee out of passion and a desire to get more involved with the marc and help fellow members... not for what private benefits you can get out of it. You should try getting into politics its a good gig nowadays with plenty of purks....sounds like you would be a natural ! The nature and character of Ferrari owners is changing as Ferrari's become cheaper and more common. We see more and more mass production of Ferrari's relatively speaking (360's 430 etc.) making them more affordable to more people and the FCA needs to change its culture to accommodate this. We are not all multiple car owning Company Directors just very passionate Ferrari owners. Maybe I will run for a committee position...!?!? Just to annoy you some more Aircon !! "Transparency in the committee and equality for all".... how's that sound for a campaign slogan..? :0
no, you got it right the first time Have you guys called Winston to find out the selection criteria ? Aircon is NOT on the committee from what I know so how he got invited is anyone's guess
I have to agree with Aircon, you have no idea what you are talking about with regard to the committee, indeed the implication that its a bunch of people in it for themselves shows complete ignorance of how much time and effort committee members put in to the club. The Victorian division is organising this years 60th Anniversary rally, why don't you put your hand up and volunteer to work on the rally committee, then report back on how "elitist" it is. M
Exactly...these guys are idiots who have no damn clue. Reddesire's claims are so far off the mark that it's actually beyond my comprehension how such ignorance is possible. Andrew, I thought you were an ok guy, but seriously that's one big chip you have on your shoulder. Apart from turning up, what have you ever contributed to the club? A big fat nothing. Since you have a comprehension problem, I'll spell out that does NOT mean one contributes so they can get something back...no...I mean that were you to contribute you might have a clue about what actually goes on and then realise your assertions are baseless. People like you should be kicked out of the club. You give nothing, expect everything, and complain, complain complain. It's people like you who frustrate the efforts of the members of the committee and make them feel that all their efforts are wasted. Why don't you try organising something, wait until you get kicked in the teeth and then tell us how it feels, ok? Meanwhile, FO, stop complaining and stop trying to read between the lines. You're no good at it. There's no skullduggery, there's no boys' club and there's no elitism....and if you think there is, then you have a problem in your head. Incidentally, I have no dog in this fight...I'm not on the committee, I didn't have anything to do with the organisation, I just think whingers are pathetic. I always have and always will appreciate everything the committee does, because I know the time and effort that they put into things...and that's a fact. If they happen to do something I don't like, I just STFU, because right or wrong, I know they did their best. (except in one case, but I digress)
^^^ Good one. I'm sure Andrew's on the phone begging for inclusion in the organising committee as I type. *cough*
Sorry - tried to stop myself from getting involved but this is getting a little out of hand. 1. I have known the organiser as a member of various car clubs for over 25 years. We are not 'friends' in any way except sharing a love for gorgeous marques. One thing I do know is that he is a very fair, honest individual. I am embarrassed at the thought that any of this may be read by him. The organiser puts in many hours in his role and was pivotal in negotiating the deal with Maranello that has kept FCA operating in the manner we are all used to...not in accordance with ridiculous rules. He was responsible for enabling a selection of cars over the past 60 years to drive on the GP circuit. Ever tried organising something like that? A thankless task and thanks to all these comments, something that no one in their right mind will ever do again!!! I know for a fact (by seeing the people there) that it wasn't a case of being friends with the organiser - there were actually a nemesis or two - but he is above all of this politics. When I first met him in the 1980's he used to arrive at the track - drive (Porsche as that time) - and leave he was so non-political. 2. Lets take the emotion out of this. What if this were in a corporate situation? Should 'new' employees be invited to meet the Prime Minister (oops...wrong example - who would want to meet her!!)...OK...Prince William and Kate? If a CEO chose long serving employees is this really wrong? Sometimes decisions have to be made. Sometimes a lot of the people dont like them...but that is life. In the interests of transparency: I was not included in the initial 60 chosen cars. I contacted the organiser and told him that the FCA should promote women owners. Luckily a vacancy arose and I took part. If I had not been included what would I have done? Accepted the decision and MOVED ON. YES: I enjoyed driving around the F1 circuit....it was fantastic and I was so awestruck that I didnt get over 100kph. YES: My association with the FCA spans 25 years NO: I dont feel guilty. To be honest - it was great to be in the company of people that day who truly love the marque. No one wanted to strut down and be seen in Chapel or Lygon Street. It was true Ferrari owners enjoying what "USED" to be the norm for the club. NO: I haven't enjoyed the past few social occasions. I am used to a club where you get along with everyone and where there is no snobbish-ness. I don't enjoy the cafe lait set and never will. YES: I am prepared to be crucified for my honesty in this post..bring on the sarcastic comments regarding my honesty. Janne
the amount of work that goes on organising the FNRs is never really appreciated by the members unless they are lucky enough to get called by committee members asking for assistance. I have never been directly involved but I have been given a good insight to the amount of time and effort it takes from Mike in ACT, Giovanni in WA, the boys in NSW and Leona in QLD ...... all top people and class acts if you have ever been to our FNRs. Missing out on a lap of Albert Park is inconsequential in the big picture of the club, try getting more involved and find out how hard it is to please everyone. I know Susie H was on the prowl the other day for the track regs which she thought I may have but I know that sneaky bugger Giovanni Millard has them so she spent several days just tracking done the current rules and then someone will have a whinge about them
Sheez, all this over the non appearance of a 348 which Luca deM described as the worst car Ferrari has built
