tough loss, but all in all, not a half bad way to start the season on the road. I can't wait to see what the birdinals' rings are gonna look like.

I was kind of hoping for a called game, then Luca wouldn't feel so bad and we could watch together tomorrow. Weather has looked terrible all day in StL -- at least from what i can see:

What a gorgeous day for baseball! Not, :(

I'll try to get some shots of the Clydesdales to cheer Luca up, but what I wouldn't do for a clothes dryer right now, :D

It looks to have stopped -- sort of.

1.5" of rain today? The field will be a mess.

Nervous start. Watching a bit, then headed out for our local home opener with the Winston Salem Dash.

They tried, gotta give them that. Yesterday was Matheny's first real hiccup, he needs to learn when to pull his pitchers and get a better hold on the bullpen. Which leads me back to the fact that in my opinion, Jose Oquendo should be the manager right now.

So Pujol$ went 1-4 yesterday, raising his BA by a couple points to around .220, no HR's and 2 RBI's, I hope he's enjoying his $254,000,000, if he were still in STL the fans would still love him, but I'm sure there are already a number of Angels fans that have already turned on him.

One of the best opening days I've ever been to, it's always nice seeing Stan "the only man" Musial back on the field. STL has by far the greatest group of living hall of famers. It's always sad though, I keep thinking every year that this is Stan's last opening day, but let's hope he's around for 20 more

    Rain again. :(

Scott, everyone has to start as a manager at some point. Of course, a wee bit of understudy might have been helpful in advance. Interesting commentary on KMOX about Tony now.

I agree, everyone has to start somewhere, but Mike's only coaching gig before taking over Tony's spot was a little league team. It's been a few years since I played little league, but iirc, there wasn't a whole lot of situational plays that came up, such as hit and runs, changing pitchers, managing lineups against other teams, choosing bench players, how to deal with 162 games and 25/40 egos, dealing with the press, base stealing, etc. If Matheny was qualified, guess what, so are the millions of other people who have watched a baseball game. Granted, he was a catcher, which is one of the more involved positions in the game, in a sense the field captain, but that doesn't necessarily make you have manager qualities.

Now that was his first real mistake, and his first real blowup as far as bad games go, which will be the first of many, but I stand by my statement that Mozeliak went out on a limb hiring Matheny, and if he doesn't produce, I.e. a 500 record or above, it could be the end of both of their tenures with the Cardinals at the end of this season.

With that being said, rain rain go away, come again another day. :)

If they can get out of the 6th safely now, I'll feel better.

(Scott, I agree with your sentiments and analysis of Matheny. I guess I'm a "glass half full" guy when it comes to the Cards however. ;) )
