yes, very good, but we all know to take ring times w/ a grain of salt.

agreed but this is a good sign for the 991. Many were afraid it would be too GT, a Panamera coupe if you will; but it seems that Porsche has come up with a great sports car instead :)

Anyone who "invests" in the high performance version of a modern car for bragging rights is misguided to start with. Whatever comes next is always better.

There's a good column by Ezra Dyer in the new Automobile magazine, in which he talks about 9 year old prestige cars like the Audi S8, Ferrari 360, etc., and how the latest Honda Accord could outrun his '98 BMW M3.

jury's out on the GT3RS 4.0 (last of the Metzgers, and last of the "true" manuals), but yes otherwise they're just used cars.

This is one article where I disagree with him.
A good used 996GT3 for example is still a fantastic car where the depreciation curve will hit bottom a few years after the new 991 comes out.
You will be able to drive that car for years with little maintenance costs if you DIY most service.
Been there, done that with other 911's.

    He can keep his Accord.
    Now thats a thrilling ride.

what are 996 gt3 going for these days $50K? Something tells me that 997 gt3 will fall a lot more.

the 997 gt 3 is big improvement from the 996 gt3. Also the clutch on the 996 gt3 was a bear to engage due to it being so stiff. I drove one on the track but would never consider it for an everyday car. One 45min. stop and go traffic jam would cure anyone for there desire of the 996 gt3

true. I had a 6-GT3 and it was a bear to live with around town.

but on track, with no traction control, PASM, etc it was a dream. lots of hard-core track guys prefer the 6 to the 7 for that reason.

not sure on production numbers but I suspect there are easily 2x as many 7-GT3s as 6-GT3s; so I think they'll even out, both around $40k for non-RS cars.

I won't name drop, but I spoke with a Mr. So-And-So last week who said they're trading for ₤40K over list in the UK.

Still haven't met The Stig. I was supposed to, but that didn't happen.

I'm back in town in November, Chas. Plan ahead.
