June 3 - Le Mans Test Day (France)
June 16-17 - 24 Hours of Le Mans (France)
Aug. 25 - Six Hours of Silverstone (UK)
Sept. 16 - Six Hours of Sao Paulo (Brazil)*
Sept. 30 - Six Hours of Mt. Fuji (Japan)
Oct. 20 - Six Hours of Bahrain (Bahrain)
Nov. 11/18 - Six Hours of China (TBA)

The ACO/FIA really bent the ALMS over on this one. Not only was Petit given the ax, they scheduled Bahrain for the same weekend. I wonder if 120,000+ fans will flood Road Atlanta in 2012 to watch an exhibition of LMPC & GT3 Cups. Something smells. Methinks Dr. P was nicely compensated for his acquiescence.

As a longtime endurance racing fan I'm thrilled to see that crappy circuits such as Nurburgring and Monza were shelved to make room the classic track located in the cradle of sportscar racing otherwise known as Bahrain. Long live the FIA!

wow, that sucks donkey balls about Petit.

will they change the date? IIRC, they had moved Petit back 3 weeks (from first weekend in Oct in 2011 to Oct 20 for 2012); then again, not much of a gap from mid September to mid November.

    I don't get it...

Or perhaps after the Sebring Classic they will just give free range for a singular sanctioning body to control American sprtscar racing and Grand Am may well get endurance racing back to what it was in the Camel GT days?

If I was Grand Am, I'd be making an offer to Dr. Panoz shortly...

The situation in Bahrain being what it is, don't rule
    Petite Le Mans out yet.

Colleagues of mine in Europe whom are planning to
cover the entire schedule are none too pleased about
havng to go to Bahrain, China and Brazil for different
    reasons.

These things have a way of turning around.

Word around the paddock is that Dr. P has been listening to offers for a number of years. More recently, Duncan Dayton is said to be heading up a group to buy IMSA & the ALMS with the sticking point being the Sebring property/complex. Evidently there is huge amount debt rolled into the hotel/surrounding grounds which nobody wants any part of. Now that a strong factory grid is all but dead for Petit, the Road Atlanta property suddenly loses its value.

BartonWorkman: The ACO said that Road Atlanta is too short for the number of cars on the grid they're expecting. I fear that even if M1 Abrams tanks will be turning more laps at the Bahrain circuit than LMP's in October, Petit will still be left for dead. Call me crazy, but I always expect the worst when in comes to the ALMS.
