I have 2 issues that I am battling. Any help would be appreciated. 1. The transmission is shifting 1-3-5 and missing the even gears. The transmission warning light comes on after about 30 minutes of driving and when the car is warmed up. It works perfectly until this happens and the idle becomes rough too. I can shut the car down and wait a few minutes and the problem goes away. I uploaded the transmission codes the dealer pulled up. (attached) Once it would not go into reverse but after shutting the car down reverse came back. Is it a failed speed sensor or transmission ECU? https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/ferrari-california-transmission-is-this-normal.551716/ 2. I am getting codes p0030 (7E8), p0131(7EA) and 7E9. It has a titanium exhaust that has tubes for the o2 sensors which is strange. I am unable to find who manufactures the exhaust and the dealer is of course recommending it to be switched back to the stock exhaust which I would hate to do. It sounds amazing. Do you know who manufactured it or have any ideas about the problem? The dealer said the o2 sensor was fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. For the 02 sensor P0030 is an error in the 02 heater circuit for bank 1 sensor 1. That wouldn't be caused by the exhaust but either a bad 02 sensor most likely or the wires between the 02 sensor and ecu less likely. P0131 is low voltage for the 02 sensor bank 1 sensor 1. This can either be caused by a bad 02 sensor or the sensor reading a prolong lean condition. Bank 1 sensor 1 is the precat sensor that control the air/fuel mixture for bank 1. It seems like this sensor is bad and should be replaced. The pipe coming off your CAT can connecting to the 02 sensors is the second sensor which monitors emissions. The pipe was likey installed to fool the ecu since the aftermarket CAT isn't sufficient enough to generate the correct 02 sensor signal and the pipe moves it further from the exhaust gasses lowering its reading back into spec. I have seen this done also with using drilled out spark plug extenders or a mini cat depending on how much "help" the sensor needs. For the transmission it looks like you have both a level 3 speed sensor code and level 2 SAP codes. This PDF was published by Ferrari for the transmission codes https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10118593-9999.pdf The Hollywood Mechanic has a good video about diagnosing the SAP. But if you have a speed sensor issue the whole tranmission needs to be disassemble to replace it. While in there might as well replace also have all the other possible fault causing items replaced since most of the cost is the labor to disassemble the transmission. There are a number of shops that can do this repair, but I would make sure they will address all the solenoid gaskets and such not just put into the Ferrari speed sensor kit. The Hollywood Mechanic has another good video about the different possible faults and promotes his rebuild kit. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Another possible cause of the 02 sensor issue is a cracked header or exhaust gasket leak allowing additional air into the exhaust causing the 02 sensor to read lean. However with the heater circuit error my 1st instinct is a bad 02 sensor.
I think I'd be a lot more concerned about the gearbox over the exhaust here ... please let us know what you learn.
Update: Looks like it is a bad SAP and we are going to try putting in a new O2 sensor. I am supposed to get the parts and labor quote next week. It is at a shop in Houston that specializes in Ferraris and did 12 Californias last December for the same issue on the transmission. Wish me luck.
Not sure what a sensor costs or how to get them, or if you need just the o-rings in the solenoids replaced a kit for that can be bought on eBay. A whole new SAP and the kit to fix it is about $5,300. https://www.scuderiacarparts.com/part/266469/ferrari/70004180/sap1-kit.html Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
I have also owned a 2013 Cali30 with DCT shift from 1-3-5-7, (missing the even gears). Also the transmission error warning light come on when the car was warmed up and the problem disappeared when the car was shutted down for 10 mn. Issue was: Sensors failed when DCT was warmed up. DCT sensors replacement by dealer under warranty. Good luck.
That sounds like the speed sensor failed. It seems like general cause of failure is a zip tie that wears through the wire and maybe contamination from the gears wearing. It is in the gearbox portion of the transmission and requires a special puller to remove the back of gear box and a couple of gears. https://www.scuderiacarparts.com/part/266474/ferrari/70004182/gearbox-speed-sensor-kit-level-3.html You can find the puller kit on ebay now. This is not an SAP issue. This is a speed sensor issue and the failed sensor pulls the supply voltage down for the SAP solenoids. We do several of these a month with the exact symptoms and codes depending on which of the three speed sensors fail. If you have the box repaired ensure they inspect all the wiring, replace the pressure sensors, speed sensors and temperature sensors and it will be good to go.
I had my speed and temp sensors replaced, total around 8k at dealer. The location / labor market would matter.
pressure sensors and replacing all the internal and external seals doubles that and I do not know a dealer that will touch the seals in the intermediate plate. I obviously don't know all the dealers but I do speak with many on a regular basis. Great thing about getting estimates is you can make an informed decision and choose where you get it fixed. Many dealers will simply quote you a replacement gearbox.
Huge price difference. Where are you located? A big difference would exist between 2 countries with a wide economic gap, but not in the same country. Thank you for mentioning your cost, food for thoughts…
Seeing the quote above, the major difference is the SAP kit. Mine didn’t have to be replaced. So for me, in addition to the speed sensor, it was just the temperature sensor (around same price as speed sensor). The rest is the margin on parts - the dealer quote above has a larger margin v. My dealer.
