I have been looking at Porsche's every night for a year on the www. This looks like they are morphing it to look like a 911, which I suppose is not all bad, but not as disctinctive looking as the present model.

Really. I looked at the new Boxster a lot and thought they moved away from 911 design towards CGT cues. I have a tough time differentiating the currect Cayman from 911s at a distance and I actually own a Cayman.

It's interesting how people can have such opposing views of the evolution of a car! :)

I tend to agree with Matt though, I think it's become a little more 911-like in terms of overall shape, but if they add the side scoops that'd be a good styling differentiator. I thought the original Cayman design (a car I'd love to own) was more distinctive though.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I looked at the changes and decided to grab a 2012 as I think the 2013 is going to look more modern. I'm a big fan of older, smaller, 911's from the 70's and 80's... I was thinking about buying an old 911 but wanted a new car to use as a daily driver.

I thought Porsche nailed the design on their first try with the 987.... and I like the retro look. The new car (981) will have modern big wheels, and bigger flattened rear glass window (to make room for a sliding targa top in the future).

Also, I like the current interior with its simple sports car look. The new interior (in red) just isn't the look I wanted in a small car.... there isn't much room, and you'd have to rest your arm on the actual buttons with the new center design (not good for long trips). New electronic brake would make me miss the old fashioned handbrake.

Lastly, I wasn't a fan of adding Gallardo style door scoops, as I think they were just added to make it look different from the 911 range. I'm sure the new Cayman will be a hit! Don't get me wrong, I'm just glad I was able to pick-up a new car with a bunch of old-school Porsche styling cues.

Just saw the 991 last weekend, and it looks great! But they have worked hard to take the classic bubble look out of the traditional 911 design. Seems Porsche is flatting the curves in an effort to look more modern.... and will use the same concept on the Cayman.

Here's a bunch of photos I collected, while I was shopping...

Agree on the interior - the big console works better in the big Panamera sedan.

I like the design direction of the new Cayman, though -- I think the sculpted doors may make it look more muscular, FWIW.
