This is the new upgraded F1 app for tablets as well as phones. F1 Timing App 2013 - YouTube Looks Good!
I have last years version and can vouch that it's very good. I guess I'll have to buy the new version, which kinda sucks as the new one doesn't seem to offer a lot more functionality beyond "tire data", which is cool though. $34 does seem a little steep, but you are looking at the same data as the guys on the wall. Personally, I think it's good value as it definitely enhances my "viewing pleasure" - I'm generally a little ahead of the commentators here in the States for example. Incidentally, the same guys do the same app for Motogp - $5.99. I guess a Bernie license doesn't come cheap....... Cheers, Ian
I seldom watch the F1 races live. Can I still use the timing app? The YouTube video indicates that I can. Does anyone have experience using the app while watch the race on DVR (possibly) days after the race? ... Ok, I just read that on the app's home page that one can "download racepacks" which are "ideal for tape-delayed TV broadcast." Has anyone used this feature to watch a race on DVD a few days after the actual race? Thanks!
Yep. It works great if you're time-shifting. FWIW, as a test, I just now downloaded the Brazil race data - It "offered" that automatically when I fired up the (2012) app. Beware - They're pretty big files (this race is over 5GB). All sessions from all races are downloadable - I just checked. Pause one feed and sync the time on both and away you go. You can obviously fast forward, rewind etc etc. Works a treat. FWIW, I suspect, but don't yet know, it will refuse to allow me to use it/download sessions in 2013 though. Bernie no doubt wants his pound of flesh..... Cheers, Ian
Holyshiet! It has full tire data & integrated RSS feed/tweet...too bad fchat isn't rss-able, if it was we could all be chatting it up like we normally do within the app rather than having to toggle back and forth.
You need a another 'puter! For me; iPad on either Sky (kid dependent ) OR this app. iPhone; This app, but generally only on timing - The map etc works, but the screen is a little small. Laptop; Fchat browser etc. TV; NBCS Done job! Cheers, Ian
So if you DVR the race and download the data on the app for that race, how do you sync up the times exactly? And if you do sync them up and you want to fast forward through each commercial break, do you have to re-sync it every commercial? There must be 20+ commercial breaks during a race...
If you F/F thru the commercials, and the TV feed is truly live (*), then yes, a re-sync will be required to match the feeds up again. [(*) - Speed *used* to play games with the live feed in an attempt to not "miss any action" a few years back.... The fans complained and I think now all broadcasts are live as so many use the timing apps etc.] I haven't checked the 2013 version yet, but the old one had a "scrubbing bar" - Just slide it back & forth and watch "Bernie-Time" at the top of the screen. Works, but no "single step, "one second advance" or similar options. Therefore, what I did was; - F/F the TV feed and pause it once the action returns. - F/F the timing feed - Easy to get it close, and a little ahead of the TV pause. Then pause it. - Restart the TV and release the pause in the app when the clocks match. After a few attempts it's easy to get well within a second. Cheers, Ian
Well, besides maybe Australia, which I will be lucky to be able to stay up that late, and US, I will be watching all the races DVR'd.... And I like your method of matching time for time on the TV and App, however, do I want to do that 20+ times a race just so I can see the timing???? And spend $33 for the app...? Is it that good?
My 02c; Probably not..... To me, it's got more value in FP & qualy than the race anyway - And I watch most live. The "who's on what tires and how old are they" Q is interesting to watch - And they've enhanced that this year I believe. *If* you're watching most of it live, then yes, IMO it's worth it. "Less than the cost of a coffee per session" etc..... Just to watch it/sync it after the fact is kinda cool, but I reckon you gotta be really "anal". Which is fine of course. Cheers, Ian
From what I've seen (please correct if needed ) they've; - Added Twitter (?) integration (no use to me) - Improved the "tire chart" to include history - It always showed what they were on, but not how long they'd been on 'em..... Very cool. - "Speed improvements & general bug fixes." Always love that one.... If you weren't impressed with last years, I don't see this one being any better. I'm waiting to see if the '12 version will still work...... Cheers, Ian
As expected, Bernie wants his $ *again*! Oh well, the $30 due from Bigtex for the book will about cover it! Cheers, Ian
Guys, it's not the app per say that will incur the additional cost, it's the Championship subscription/event title that costs 30 bucks. You theoretically should be able run it in the 2012 app as long as you download the title event, but with so much new functionality they've added, it probably might not be compatible anymore.
It's the same difference then. The app itself is a free download, they don't ask for the 30 bucks until you download the title event within the app.
I don't think so [But could be wrong, I haven't got the new version yet] AFAIK, there is a "free" version, but it's just as demo with some pre-loaded data for a look-see. I guess that could be upgraded when you go live, but for sure there is a $33.99 version also in the store. Cheers, Ian
You're right. The free version allows you to buy access on a per race basis, it seems. The 33.99 one gives you the full season.
Ahh.... OK, makes sense. Thx. [At least as much as any of the 'deals' make sense these days..... ] The $MM Q then becomes, 'how much per race?' Per session? Cheers, Ian
The timing is also different. I can only go by the Android version. It has improved from last years version 10 fold but still not worth $30~/year.
You can't pay per race... Just like last year, at the start of each session/GP it prompts you to download a live event. You pay the 30 bucks up front for the entire season and not at each of those updates. Just go to The Event Store in the app (tap the wrench icon) and then tap Event Store, if you've already paid, you will see the Championship Pass for the whole 2013 season. Again the app is free, the pass is what costs 30 bucks,
