The FXX and LaF are completely different cars. Other than both being V12 cars, I completely fail to see the resemblance and how the LaF can effect the price of the FXX. I would go as far as to say that they don't even appeal to the same clients.
The Speciale and Speciale Aperta are also very different in terms of availability and rarity. One is a limited production car, the other is not. While the Speciale is a more raw edition of the 458, it's nothing like the FXX compared to the LaF. The 458 Speciale and 488 are much closer than the FXX and LaF. some may argue that the technology used in the Speciale and 488 is closer related than that of the 458 Italia.

this is why you and I don't buy these cars. We don't spend $50K without careful consideration. However, there are folks with much more cash/income than we do. $50K for them is equivalent to $2-3K to us (hence $400K to them is about 15-25K for us). They know that $50K will be gone in a year but they don't really care.
    I don't have a problem spending $2-3K over MSRP for a $25K car that I want.
15 years ago I can't imagine spending $3K over MSRP for any car....

Why is there so much debate over the price? The car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Simple supply and demand. Original sticker is irrelevant.

Don't you think a more relevant example for comparison purposes would be the scud/16m? If not, why not?

Possibly, but the 16M is down a generation.

I think the more determing point will be the teething period of the 488 Turbo era.
New designs usually need sorting out and this could be a big one, especially with the heat generated by a turbo.

The question I was asking Jweilan was whether a better model for the Speciale depreciation/appreciation curve is the Scud or the FXX? Having a very hard time understanding how the FXX depreciation/appreciation could at all be relevant to a road legal car costing a fraction as much and targeted to a completely different market.

I agree that how people respond to the turbo will be an important factor for Speciale price performance. The turbo cars will take performance to another level and there will be a subset of Speciale buyers who just want "the latest and greatest" who will switch. This exact thing happened in the case of the Scud, 16M and CS.

Bigger question is how many new buyers emerge to buy the Speciale from those wanting the latest flavor of the month.

IMHO, The depreciation curve will parallel or drop slightly less than the Scud.
Better car, better electronics but the Speciale's MSRP was much higher.

Your last question; how many 488 buyers opt for a Speciale instead, I believe will highly dependent on the 488 drivability and reliability.

I believe that the speciale will depreciate about as fast as a 911 gt3 rs 4.0..... not at all. The 488 may be a great car, but proper car enthusiasts will want the screaming NA Speciale, and I don't care who you are a turbo car is not the same.

I think it will depreciate easier than the Scud because there isn't the fallout of a financial crisis in the middle of this. However, 5-6 years out I think it will be worth about where the Scud is and the whole "last NA" thing won't matter much to the market because they always do something else and the last NA motor will be one of the V12s. And those really scream.
