had our 2014 California in for annual and the dealer said it's time to replace the plugs (they are original). The car has 10k miles and starts fine, accelerates great, has no shudder, and idles smoothly. So, first I was surprised that the plugs needed to be changed and stunned that the quote was $2,800 for parts ($450) and labor (the rest).

would appreciate thoughts on time-based sparkplug replacement and the cost...

I can't see why plugs would be replaced at 10k miles. It is amazing the boldness of your shop to gouge you for a known cheap item that shade tree mechanics used to do themselves since the birth of the automobile. You need 8 plugs. Do the math...that's right $128 for the OE plug from Advance autoparts. If you look around you can probably find them cheaper. I would not think of replacing plugs until I got at least to 30kmiles. NGK says 60-80,000 miles on the platium plug. What does the WSM say? I would look at WSM recs, NGK recs, and inspect the plug visually to determine when to change them.

I had my plugs replaced by my local indy F car specialist at 20k mi. I bought the correct ones on line for less than $10 each and installation was included in the annual service, a total of under $1k. I’d find somebody else if I were you.

$2800 for spark plugs and labor is completely ridiculous.

Like others have stated, $10-12 each for the plugs then a couple hours labor at most.

That charge is not unusual for a dealer to charge, which is why most with a car your age would go to an independent shop. The labor charge is extremely excessive for changing spark plugs only.

Ty for the labor rate confirmation. I'm on the power15 treadmill, so getting cover systems worked on by an "Independent" shop is a worry. Don't want to save $2k on the plugs and then have to pay 50-75k when the transmission or hardtop fails.

It sure sounds excessive. But I remember there was the chevy monza and 1 spark plug was really difficult to reach. I seem to remember lots of angst and cost associated with going after that one. So if on this car it isn't straight forward there could be some justification. I've not done it so I don't know.

I would say if it ain't broke, don't fix it, especially for spark plugs. There are other things lurking ... carbon buildup, for example, or oil leaks ... where it might make more sense to do the plugs "while you're in there."

I lived in Brickell for many years. The dealership can easily mess your car up also and to be honest. FioranoMotorsports in Doral, is a fantastic shop that works on Ferrari’s. You are easily over paying on one of the easiest Ferrari’s to work on unlike us mid engine guys.

Thank you for the post, appreciate it. I have used Fiorano for the PPI and some interior carbon bits install - he's awesome.
