This year I shall be travelling at new year, so unlike previous years I shall post the data I have collated in a series of postings, not one fell sweep. I n longer have a paid subscription, so if anyone wants to rip it out of my blog below and repost feel free.

the old stuff still resides in a downloadable form, I think!

Cars: We All Fall in Love With Our Models: 2014 Dino Data (a)

(no ads no commercial value, if you visit only my ego is inflated, not my bank balance)

Apologies to those who hate all this price stuff, go for a drive if the weather permits.

    Happy Christmas.

A few comments after having read the offsite articles, interesting as they are:

    1. John Corbani's Dino was offered for sale with over 95,000 miles on it, pretty damn close to your 100,000 mile limit comment. I think it had 98,000 miles on it when I drove it, and it was soon thereafter sold and shipped to Europe. In fact, I think that many collectible cars, including Dinos, with high mileage are interesting propositions because I suspect that an additional 20,000 or more miles will likely cause no discernible depreciation effect, and in fact might add to the desirability, especially if the car has been regularly driven and has been well-maintained.

    2. I think that the sub-title of your last article, "Ferrari Dinos are not a Great Investment. Honestly!," is slightly misleading, although perhaps accurate in comparing Dinos to more normal investment opportunities.

And here's why - the comparison should be made between buying a Dino to enjoy it versus buying any other cars, since that is what the focus is of most enthusiasts here on FCHAT.

Sure, you might be right when comparing to original investments in Google, Amazon, Apple, or whatever, but that isn't what enthusiasts on FCHAT are here for (not that there aren't discussions about investment and business opportunities elsewhere on FCHAT).

The more interesting question to me is how have Dinos values done versus other sports cars from the period such as Daytonas, 911s, Corvettes, etc., and how Dinos compare to more modern cars such as 360s, 430s,458s, Gallardos, etc., as investments in the "here and now."

To Rob'so point: I used to subscribe but remember that big row you had with the English ?

Dealing with the more substantive points below. I only track rIghtfield hand drive cars so Jon
    hn'so wouldn'the hit my data.

The enjoyment vs investment debate is running in the place that us English went to a few years back. My argument is that consuming cars is one thing and investing entirely another. I consume cars, I do not invest. I am trying to remind the vulnerable of what happened in 1989. This is a bubble, honestly. And that is from a man who is currently selling a Ferrari so has a vested interest in talking it up. But then I am a contrarian.

Oh yes, look how big FerrariChat is now. Did Club Scud even get 1,000 posts last month? I think the Americans won that war among others. :D ;)

Winning the peace is the issue.

all is good for everyone now. I don't think most British are genetically wired to get along in internet forums. A pub or football match is hard enough for you lads to get along, much less a faceless one-dimensional forum. :D

Not sure that comments on the genetic propensity of any particular group to get along are allowed by the rules of this forum, I'd say it was off topic at least!

When placing value on a car like this, I think you left a few data points out of the equation:

    1. Turning wrenches in my garage is better for me than drinking beer and picking fights.

    2. Taking a drive in a Dino is far better than sitting in a dark office and talking with a shrink.

    3. And most importantly...Staring at my Dino tucked away for the winter is much more enjoyable than logging on to my 401K account.

There is more to this story than economics. We are simply lucky that our chosen hobby has increased in value recently. If the current trend does not continue I will always have points 1-3.

    Cheers

It was a joke, but then I guess that means Brits don't have that sense of humor. ;) That would be a genetic propensity then. :D hey, you are the one that brought it up, I didn't start it.

Thanks for making that clear, in our country We usually have a man walking in front of us waving a flag to warn if a joke is coming along to avoid everyone falling down in fits of hilarity. It saved Mrs thatcher on numerous occasions.
