I have not read all of the recent posts, but Eddie Irvine noted that Alonso was openly speaking to Red Bull (presumably about a seat for next year). Can't imagine Red Bull would give up either Vettel or Ricciardo (love to see him in a Ferrari). So he may be fishing for more money.

So it's not just OPINION that Nico did nothing wrong.....he actually obeyed the rules. That means that it was Hamilton's fault that contact occurred! Oh no...I hear heads exploding.

    See above :)

Smartest move Nico's done all year. No he's shown Lewis that he won't be screwed with. If you think that won't be in the back of Lewis' mind, you're very wrong IMO

So much for calling him a cheat!! lol

I was a bit surprised by the ACTUAL rule too, I would have thought it would be the same as V8 stupidracing where you need to have half the car or more alongside to get racing room.

The fanbois will hardly have even noticed the rule book, it was Maldonado's fault after all :p

The "half-car alongside" rule (or guide) is what i've always found to be "reasonable" as well. But that's not the rule book for F1 :(

According to F1 rules, Nico was under no obligation to back out of that incident ... front wing alongside a rear tire is all you need, to constitute a "substantial" position or threat. And Rosberg made no admission of intentionally "causing" the contact either ... that was simply Hamilton's interpretation, of Rosberg's unwillingness to back off.

No penalties, is the right call.

Seems that this explanation specifically applies to passing on a straight, fwiw...

20.4 Any driver defending his position on a straight, and before any braking area, may use the full width of the track during his first move, provided no significant portion of the car attempting to pass is alongside his. Whilst defending in this way the driver may not leave the track without justifiable reason.

Re: the rule about significant portion wouldn't apply in this case would it? This seems like it relates to weaving to take the inside/outside line on a straight before they start braking, in which case the front wing/rear wheel thing is more than fair enough.
