FChat Team, I took delivery of my 2014 Cali two days ago, and have to say that I am extremely impressed with this car. I originally ordered the car solely to have the ability to get a 458 Spider at MSRP by Spring '15. I have previously owned a 2012 v10 r8 Spider and a 2013 Porsche Turbo S. I hated the transmission in the r8 which was an otherwise gorgeous car and was amazed at what an incredible piece of engineering the Turbo S is. However, I felt like the Turbo S was almost boring to drive albeit a world class machine. After driving my friends 458 Spider I was hooked but since I was not a previous Fcar owner I decided to order a Cali on my way to the spider as I am a convertible guy. After taking delivery of the Cali I have to say that I am blown away by the incredible driving experience. The car can go from a stately smooth roadster to a beautiful monster with the flick of a paddle. I have had a truly wonderful time driving the car in the past few days and after reading many posts and articles that indicted the Cali for various reasons, Im surprised at how much I love it. I am considering putting my deposit down on the next gen Cali instead of the 458 Spider. Also, i may put 458 wheels on the Cali but besides that I am in love. One last thing to add is that I live in Michigan where we have pretty terrible roads which the Cali navigates very well and the 458 less so. Not knocking the 458 in any way, its beauty and performance are enchanting. For now, I think that Im hooked on the Cali. Congrats and enjoy in good health. Gorgeous gar. Black/tan is my favorite color combination. Interesting what you said about the roads. Poor roads in my state as well and rough parking lot conditions many times as well. Saw a 430 with a front end crack likely from some pothole or other road hazard. That'd be a tough hit. Cali seems more of a daily driver.
Welcome to Fchat. Congrats. I'm jealous I like the Cali. Nearly ended up with one twice so far but hasn't happened yet. The new Cali's are monsters. You got 7yr/70k, too, right?
Yes I did pay sticker. In my original post I meant to say that by taking delivery of the Cali, I would be able to get a 458 Spider at MSRP in Spring of 2014 not 2015.
Great looking car. At some point you should drive a 458 spider and see if the switch from the cali 30 is worth it. I've heard the spider is a fair bit softer that the italia. I look forward to finding out myself.
Beautiful car! You just have to love that new warranty! Sounds like you may be a two Ferrari family soon??? Enjoy
I have driven the Spider many times and think that it is a wonderful car. I just think that the Cali fits my "mission profile" for now.
Ooops, sorry...sloppy wording...used the wrong term which really changed the meaning of what I intended to say. You guys are correct.
Welcome to the forum, you have a great looking car. I'm partial to the diamond stitching as I feel it suits the GT nature of the car. After you've got a few more miles of experience, how about sharing your compare/contrast impressions of it with your other cars? I also have a 997.2S Cabrio, and would be interested in why you think the turbo is almost boring in comparison. Enjoy the summer motoring!
I'm sorry, I am a noob here so please excuse me if this is a dumb question...Are 458 spiders usually sold above sticker? If so, by how much? And I also prefer the diamond stitching. Not a fan of the yellow calipers though, I'd paint them black. IMO, the lines of the car are too beautiful to be distracted by the calipers. Otherwise, I Love your car!
To be clear, I would argue that in terms of pure performance the 997.2S is the finest production vehicle around, especially considering its price. For me, between the PDK Trans and the AWD platform the car was so incredibly smooth and stable that I didn't really enjoy driving it as much as I would have thought. Also, i like the Cali's exhaust note far more than the Porsche (albeit i did have a 997.2S coupe). As far as my r8 was concerned, i absolutely hated the transmission (i heard the current model does have a DCT) and i had an option that included a big piece of CF that my knees would bang into constantly. I would imagine that when Audi unveils the redesigned r8 that it will be absolutely stunning. For now, i am still in love with the Cali. Once in a while you just find a car that works perfectly for you.
I apologize because I didn't know where to post this link ... I don't think it is any California but of a new model's mule or maybe a bad version If you look at the back in black you can see how the slits... Ferrari California - 1 September 2013 - Autogespot
Congrats! You are not the only one who got a California "on their way" to something else, be it a 458 or other Ferrari, and ... never went on to the "next" Ferrari. The California is that good. You will love it.
Congrats on the new California (and welcome to the forum. It really is undeniably a much better daily driver than a 458. It sure would be a nice combo to have both though. The 458 is several notches quicker on turn-in and acceleration. Less inertia I suppose for one thing. Though it's lower and less compliant over road hazards. The 458 is also way more of a road spectacle and that may be a blessing or a curse depending on how much attention you want on any given day.
Not sure regarding the 'undeniably a much better daily driver than a 458'. Have driven mine daily for last 30 days. 2250 miles on the clock. Very easy to live with, much better and refined than my R8. The R8 stays because of its quattro system and hence its ability to manage snow and ice. Just wondering if you have driven the 458 daily for a reasonable length of time? I know I havent driven the cali for a month, so I cant compare as you have, but the 458 is an amazing daily driver for myself. Sunny
