Ouch for Vettel! Jenson Button thinks Daniel Ricciardo is the only driver with a chance of coming close to the Mercedes cars at this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix. Ferrari's Fernando Alonso split the two Mercedes in Friday practice, but Button pointed to a long and consistent run from the Red Bull driver in FP2 as the true indicator of form. "I would say the Ferrari probably isn't the car that will take it to the Mercedes," Button said. "In qualifying maybe, but in the race Ricciardo in the Red Bull looks very strong. He's a lot quicker than his team-mate and able to do seven laps more on his longer run. "He looks very good and the car is obviously working reasonably well in his hands. It's going to be a mix up I think and a lot of it is because some people are getting the tyres working and some people aren't. You can see the big differences up and down the pit lane." When asked if he was happy with his own car this weekend, Button said: "No, definitely not. There are a few things we can do overnight, but I'm not sure we are quite as competitive as the last race. But then again, in Bahrain we also struggled in FP2 on the long runs, maybe it will be better in the race. "There are a few things we can do with the set-up but you don't want to completely change the set-up just to solve front graining. We'll see, we've got a few things that we want to do to improve the car overall and we'll see where we stand. But there are lots of cars that are out of place - some are very fast and some are very slow - so we'll see. We should have a better picture if qualifying is dry tomorrow and then we'll see on Sunday." © ESPN Sports Media Ltd.
A lot of cheering for him in this household ...... sadness from this side due to poor showing by Ferrari
Sebastian Vettel has admitted Daniel Ricciardo is beating him fair and square at the moment after being out-qualified by his Red Bull team-mate at the Chinese Grand Prix on Saturday. Vettel was over 0.5s off Ricciardo in the final session of qualifying at the Shanghai International Circuit and two weeks ago found himself unable to match Ricciardo's pace at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Vettel said he was still getting to grips with the new Red Bull RB10 but did not deny Ricciardo is getting the better of him so far. "I think Daniel is doing a very good job, he has not just had one good weekend, he had good weekends and so far he seems to be able to get the maximum out of the car," he said. "On my side, maybe I'm struggling a little bit more, but at the end of the day we have the same car - there's nothing between cars, so if he manages to beat me, then he beats me on the circuit, fair and square. Of course, that's not to my liking but equally, I know that I have to do a little bit better." After the two Red Bulls split the two Mercedes on the grid, Vettel was asked whether he and Ricciardo could fight for victory and alluded to Red Bull's lack of power compared to the Mercedes: "Well, I think if we put two chicanes in all the straights then yes." He added: "In wet conditions I think we have a bit more of a chance. In dry conditions they are still quite quick and a little bit too far away. But let's see what happens tomorrow, I think the weather forecast is dry so for sure we'll try. I think we are in the best positions to try to give them a very hard time tomorrow." © ESPN Sports Media Ltd.
Amazing what a change of boss can do after putting up with so many years of .. Watch F1 Champ Fernando Alonso Poke A Guy In The Dick
Was it a good race? I got side tracked with other stuff, and by the time I switched it on - there was only a few laps left. Looks like it was a Mercedes whitewash. Was it start to finish? Good to see Alonso on the podium and always good to see Dan ahead of Seb. At least we don't have to see that damn finger of his.
watching an F1 race now allows you to multi task as its so boring one cannot sit and be entertained by the race itself
I found it interesting. Vettel being told to move over for Daniel again, and refusing, and getting bent out of shape when koby overtook him was amusing. Was exciting watching Dan chase Alonso to the flag as well. Rosberg had to fight after a poor start and with no telemetry. What's boring about it? If all you're interested in is who comes first, then you should probably watch a different sport.
