And back to our normal programming....... F1 engine rules 'completely stupid' - Vettel | News | Motorsport.com
He is of course absolutely right. Maybe he should be able to use a Merlin as a backup. Speaking of which, is the Merlin the best sounding engine in the world, ever? And proof that a non NA engine CAN actually sound wonderful?! Does anyone have any sound clips / pics?
Merlin is supercharged rather than turbo. Turbos harness exhaust energy, which includes sound, the more efficient they are, the less noise. The best sounding engine in the world, ever, is the Matra V12, as used in F1 and Le Mans.
I still can't go past the Tipo 044 (I think?) from the 1995 412T2. Failing that, the Aston V12s when used in their Lola coupes were also pretty excellent. Seems like there's a lot of agreement that V12s are best, at least!

They're German like Nico, and British like Lewis, in that they've definitely been to those places fairly recently.
Let's see, MB acquired Ilmor, founded by 2 ex Cosworth guys. That's their engine, British to the last nut and bolt. (even though it was badged Chevrolet in Indy cars) Tyrrell becomes BAR becomes Honda becomes Brawn becomes MB. That's their chassis, ditto.

No, but much more is wrong than Mercedes...and they can do just as much! If it were plenty, I don't know that Ferrari and Renault would be quite so keen on changing the freeze rules, and Mercedes so publically against it.
Mercedes say that clinching the 2014 Formula One constructors crown will not lead to changes in how Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg race each other over the final three Grands Prix of 2014. There have been several flashpoints and tense moments between Hamilton and Rosberg this year, including an unacceptable collision in Belgium, after which Mercedes stressed to both drivers that team objectives and silverware were the ultimate priority. Those criteria were largely fulfilled in Russia, as a one-two finish earned Mercedes their first ever constructors title and all but guaranteed Hamilton or Rosberg the drivers crown. Red Bulls Daniel Ricciardo is the only other driver in contention, but is now 92 points behind Hamilton with 100 still available. Despite that, Mercedes-Benzs head of motorsport Toto Wolff says the teams instructions to Hamilton and Rosberg will not alter for the final three events. I dont think we are going to change something in our approach because we want them to race each other respectfully, Wolff explained. Of course 92 points means [Ricciardo] would need to win all three remaining races and Lewis [Hamilton] not score eight points. Even though I am a pessimist, that would be a black swan, black swan, black swan event. We saw in Russia [that] Nico missed the braking [point] on the dirty line and Lewis was very cold blooded, and it was good. So it will not change the approach. We dont want it to end in some kind of circumstance with events on the track After winning in Sochi - his fourth consecutive victory and ninth of the season - Hamilton leads Rosberg by 17 points in the drivers championship, the biggest advantage the Briton has enjoyed all season.
