I always find the Daytona 24 Hour weather to be jacket weather every time I go to the race. I do not mind as long as it is sunny.
Morning practice is underway. I'd take that weather, its no different than what we have weather-wise while doing HPDE's at road america in April most of the time... and also that it's below zero again up here!
Not sure how I missed this until today, the leader lights seem like a good idea. The class position of the car will be displayed on the LED readout. Image Unavailable, Please Login
IIRC the supplier of those lights didn't deliver them in time to use during the test, so I think this is the first time they've been used. I like them...much better than the 3 lights on ALMS cars.
Is that done by US LED? Ron Farmer owns that company out of Texas, he got into racing late in life (60?). I raced the 355 C against his C5 Vette in NASA ST2 back in 2008, he was an amazing talent for being new and age. He continued to improve doing Continental Cup for several years and NARRA. I think his business was taking off and he put racing to side last couple years.
I thought maybe US LED was involved, those pit wall LED boards done a couple years ago were US LED. thanks.
And right after I stole that picture from their Twitter account they had a crash in practice with the #23 Porsche. Ouch. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good to hear the cars. I used that song in my team's soccer video...funny. I'm a bit confused by the prototype categories - there are DPs and P2s, which are marked with red mirrors / numbers. What are the prototypes with blue mirrors / numbers? How are they different from the DP / P2 class? A bit of a bummer that the DPs have an advantage. I'd be screaming about that because as much as I've been a fan of the DPs, the LMP1 / 2 cars are so much cooler.
I am hearing rumblings about a no passing rule in effect from midnight until 9am. Can anyone confirm with more information? This cannot be turned into a night time touring session.
no way that will stick unless IMSA throws a nine hour FCY. btw is your friend Jason in GTD or Conti Cup?
He's in GTD. Thier team cars qualed 5th & 11th. -TRG My g/f's sister goes to Embry Riddle and after she spoke to a few classmates that came back from the track from accross the street, she sent me a WTF text a little while ago about the no passing thing.
Alex Gurney on pole. DP's take 9 of the top 10 spots...with the DeltaWang in 7th?!?!? yeah, I'm guessing the BoP adjustments missed the mark.
Both Speedsource Mazda Prototypes had times of 1:49's, when pole sitter Gurney ran a 1:38.xx. I wonder how the rest of the prototypes ended up.
I feel bad for the Mazda team, great team with a lot of depth and a car that looks awesome (both the chassis and the livery) but once again the Mazda diesel doesn't seem to be properly developed. I hope they do better than they did last year in GX.
