ham driving away from rosy now another second that lap
A little of both. *If* the rain had really come, Ferrari strategy with Kimi would have looked genius. "Woulda, coulda, shoulda...."
A bit of both. Ham's tires were finished either way, so he had to pit regardless. Vettel just gambled and followed Hamilton.
vettel one of the luckiest drivers today. WHo called kimis stop? Himself or the team? He would've been 4th behind vettel but now is being passed in the championship by bottas. why did hams tires die and not rosbergs? rosy caught him up so fast and now both on inters ham pulled a 4 sec advantage after they pit
Vettel is amazing in the rain (Monza 2008 anyone?), but this time, it really was down to his pit timing - no matter if it was clever strategy or pure luck.
Rosberg was managing his tires for a 1-stopper, I believe. He just took care of them better and reaped the reward (by passing the Williams duo). Were it not for the rain, he may have won the British GP (though Ham would have been chasing on fresh, medium tires)
They could have avoided a lot of issues had they brought Massa in earlier. If Bottas had the pace, he would have assumed the lead. If Massa had the pace on the out, he would have kept the lead and likely kept LewHam behind on pit stop rotation, although a 2.4 by Merc was a cracking stop for LH. My opinion is they should have pitted Massa earlier while he was leading and controlling the race.
I would say HAM was much more fortunate. Vettel decision was another 20seconds later. Who cares? It was a gamble, just didn't pay off. Hams tires were not that dead vs rosberg. On slicks... Ros was just driving better. He did have more practice pushing harder passing the Williams and less to lose being behind.
