Respectfully disagree. They would have more cars than they could count. When the rules return to what USAC/CART had the paddock would be packed. The current rules package is the reason for the lack of competition and the forementioned mistakes of those presently running. Ar one time most teams ran two cars, and you had the backmarkers that helped make "bubble day" a day worth the price of admission. Now you have 1-2 cars for bumping. And it isn't even worth watching. Change the rules....and they will come.

Really, why even watch the Italian Grand Prix. Ferrari has 19 wins, so should any other team even bother?

Have we forgotten the US 500 in 1996? All the best teams and drivers and they look like a bunch of kids on Saturday night in the back seat of their Dad's Pontiac.

My kids went to high school with one of Roger's kids. Some parties at his house. Very nice guy but lived, ate and breathed Chevy and GM.

One of my fondest memories is that the rock band would show up in a Penske rental truck all set up. When the gig was over they would just drive away. I wonder how many times he has had to build onto the house to expand the trophy room! He covers all his bases. Wouldnt bet against him. Wonder what will happen to Indycars when Rog hangs it up.

My daughter was embarrassed that i talked cars with him. My son loved it.

    Congratulations, Roger!

    Rick
Galles also had a kid in the school. Saw and talked with him several times...but thats another story.

Glad to hear Montoya won. I only tuned in for a bit a third of the way through in between some outdoor stuff already planned (beach always takes priority :)).

As far as increasing ratings, does anyone think that since F1 cars are so much slower now than 10 years ago, IndyCar should open up some of the regulations to make the cars faster than F1? I think more would tune in if the cars were quicker than the F1 counterpart especially if they were to race on the same tracks worldwide (or at least formerly used F1 tracks). Obviously oval courses are dangerous as-is so raising power I don't think would do much, but I'm talking specifically about road courses. If they start taking some lap records away from the F1 car, it would get more fans and probably push F1 to really think about reversing the detuning of cars.

Remember when? Roger in the Watkins Glen garage back in 1976. At that time he had one Indy victory (Donohue in '72). A lot has happened since then!

Me too. That was so much fun. Did not want it to end.

Being a Hoosier I had to root for Carpenter, Daly and Rahal. Oh well.

    poor Ed can't catch a break :(

he and Sarah are two of my favorite people in racing, glad to see they're putting together a phenomenal team (top 10s for JR and Josef), wish they could catch some good luck for Ed.

Two Indy Car stories that just can't be overlooked...

Tony Kanaan's car will be sponsored by Taylor Swift's tour this weekend.
Taylor Swift, The Mario Andretti Of Singing, Will Be On An IndyCar

Further revisions to the famous "aero kits" will see Honda teams not using front wing endplates
    due to safety concerns.

Indycar Racing News | Racer.com - IndyCar: Aero and suspension changes in the works for Chevy and Honda

Dunno guys, can we remember the days when CART news included new spec engine upgrades and top F-1 drivers making the journey over?

That first Detroit race was an embarassment to any Motorsport. Caution, commercial, 2 laps, caution commercial caution commercial, 2 laps, caution commercial, 11 laps, caution commercial red flag. They won't survive with nonsense like that.

I don't think it was an embarrassment at all; in fact I found it quite entertaining. The changeable conditions resulted in a lot of interesting gambles and strategy calls, and that led to a surprise result. I'm looking forward to today's second race, though for everyone's sake, I hope that they get at least slightly better weather.

I really tried to watch today's race. I turned it on about halfway through. Every restart they would make it about half a lap and there would be another caution.

Someone explain to me...why don't these cars have a battery and starter on board. A simple spin shouldn't need to result in a full course caution. Is it only about saving 15 pounds?
