I think the problem with Max going to either Ferrari or Mercedes anytime soon is that he's too good to be a number two driver, and a good number two is probably what both of those teams would want. Having Max at either of those teams would be great viewing for the fans, but would not be ideal from the teams' point of view.

I'm super impressed with Max and I hope that Ferrari is watching and considering him.

Here is what I learned today; there is no need for me to stay up late or get up early to see half of the drivers strolling down the pit lane rather than do something silly like, see how fast their car can go.

Under the old format, a driver knew he still had a chance to catch lightning. Now, even if you can go fast, it only counts if you do it at the right time. Otherwise, don't bother. If this was intended as a way to draw more fans to the TV, it has done exactly the opposite.

The only way they sound better is if I turn the volume up from 15 to 100. But then I'd have to throw a shoe at the TV whenever Steve Matchett spoke.

Just watched. That was sad to see. Can you imagine having spent the time and money to actually go and see that? Utterly tragic to see how bad that was.

I wonder though is it possible that they have done this on purpose. Perhaps hearing that Qually is the best part of an F1 weekend was pissing them off?

    LOL :D

Anybody even consider to make the racing better rather than destroying qualification? Maybe they should just use best practice times to set the race grid and dispense with qualifying all together.

    From Seb during post-qualy interview:
His face said it all...sheer disappointment, a "long season" it will be indeed.

Lauda was looking out for himself. This was an attempt to try to get the Mercs off their game and stop them from winning every pole.

Obviously Mercedes outsmarted them which is why the field stopped qualifying to protect the cars from other stupid "penalties".

If I had a ticket for qualifying, I'd have asked for my money back. That was a complete joke.

And... the cars still sound terrible!

I really want to see max in a good car. That kid has the stuff.

Alonso moving to mercedes means the mercedes cars will be crap with the new regulations just because of his crap luck.

What has simply starting the race with a restricted amount of fuel got to with needing to forget all aerodynamic and engine know how since then? I'm confused.

All it would mean is the tacticians have a job to do, ie. go hard at the beginning and build a lead and conserve fuel later or something else.

Some on this site believe that a F1 race car is flat out for the whole race. That is never and not true, there is always times when they are pacing themselves or the car, etc.

So instead of stuffing around with complex fuel flow BS, just limit the fuel tank capacity. So very simple and racing would benefit as you would have cars that were quick at different times ... and guess what that aids passing (real passing, ie. on the track, not pretend passing using pitstops)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After many many years of waking up in the middle of the night to watch the Australian GP live, I have decided it just isn't worth it this year. I shall be recording the transmission and will watch it when I wake up safe in the knowledge that I won't have robbed myself of sleep and I will be able to fast forward through the majority of what can only be a dull race. It's all very disappointing.

They tried that in Group C sports cars and it created other problems. Drivers often dialed up the engine in the straights to avoid getting passed and coasted in the bends. It made passing more difficult and in the end it didn't help efficiency.

I suspect the new qualifying rules will fall to the wayside...hopefully by next race. Terrible.
No cars on track with 1:46 left in Q3. No flying laps....Fail !!

seb seemed pretty confident he can push the mercedes on race pace. Ferrari may still be able to challenge for a win. Lewis did an incredible job today Nico looked dejected as usual.

I dozed off numerous times last year only to wake up and find out I missed nothing of importance.
