One should consider the amount of stands that have been removed and the size of the politically correct "snake pit" has also been down sized. Somehow I believe that we are not going to see the attendance figures of years gone by. But the again.....Indy never really did tell us the actual numbers did they?
We've had our tickets for a while now and getting pretty excited for this running. Will be sitting in the A Penthouse. And I just came across this this morning -pretty cool! Indianapolis airport welcoming Indy 500 visitors with ?Back Home Again in Indiana? | Fox 59
For Indy's sake, and racing in general, hope the place is sold out as they say. The past few years, the grandstands have been much less than full, most obviously in the short chutes between Turns One and Two and Three and Four. If after making this 100% sold out statement, credibility is on the line as the cameras will tell all. They better be hoping for non-rain events as well. BHW
Two things will sink Indy, rain delay or rain out and a driver seriously hurt or worse. They'd better hope for no rain and that they've got their safety sums done right this year. BHW
Don't like the weather in Indiana....wait 15 minutes...it will change! As for the safety....I expect the crews to deliver the kind of service they always have done....top notch. It is up to the drivers to keep their heads in the game and not do something stupid. With the crop of rookies you have.....who knows? I won't watch it......but I do pray for a safe race for those involved.
Planning to watch it as I missed it last year. It is still a huge event of course and one of the most important races. So, it will have my curiosity this year as such. Tradition and all that dies hard. Will just have to find a way to keep the sounds of the action up while blotting out Goodyear and Cheever. BHW
Don't forget "ticket speculators"...they walk down 16th with HUNDREDS of choices in their hands!! But they simply mean the seats with numbers...the whole inside of the track, is GA. 100 running is a big deal.....to history maybe.
The one sound you won't hear is the sound of "bumping". Traditions die hard??.......one is already dead.
Watkins Glen will replace Boston from what I'm reading today. I won't complain about that, that's for damn sure!
From what I read, they're a ways off from having a done deal. The FCA evidently has a big annual event at Watkins Glen on Labor Day weekend and that event is set in stone. Also read that Indy Car is in discussion about doing a post-season, non-points street race in China (again). Are we taking odds on either of these events actually happening? BHW
somehow I doubt FCA/CCR club events trump a major (or at least, in this case IndyCar ) series from running and selling tickets. but what do I know. IndyCar should shoot on the spot any employee that even mentions an overseas race. or a non-points race.
A long long time ago at the Indy 500 there was a time when more than 33 cars tried to race in the 500. With it as the field filled up to the maximum, then faster cars would take posotions of slower cars until the qualifying was done. Now this is something that is just a figment of your imagination Today....books are sold in stores that talk about this rather unique way of making a racing field. It is a lost art and not soon to be repeated any time soon. So.....with this said can I interest you in buying a Indy Car? With it I can assure you a place in the 500 but you will pay a extremely high country club type fee to play. Cards, books and novelties are sold in the gift shop on your way out......and thanks for stopping by and learning a little bit of Indy Car history!!!! These thoughts brought to you by Turbopanzer.......on seriously p/o racing mechanic!!!
they've been humping "bump day" for a decade and I don't think they've ever had it actually happen. they need to let it go. heritage only works if it's repeatable doesn't look like they'll have 34 entries this year, despite all the hoopla for the 100th race.
Oh no, AJ always has an extra car.....Probably Andretti too... IF the sponsor money is there... Rocky Carroll has wanted a car in the 500 for a long time. I sent the message to Jack Starnes but not sure he ever got it!! The Foyt Enterprises 'Rocky Special', driven by Speedy308!! That would be something!!!
Reading about the all-woman Grace Autosport team entry this morning... Hadn't seen any news about this lately but on Racer, there is a story about how they're all ready to go, have their sponsors, crew, driver, etc. but they seem to be missing one rather important ingredient, a car. Indycar Racing News | Racer.com - INDYCAR: 'All we need is a car' for Grace entry BHW
Oh yea, I know - I was being sarcastic!! It's a testament to how far it's fallen, Bump Day used to be epic...now it's nothing but a name (literally). Thanks Clabber Girlie Man!!!
LOL! I had forgotten that!! It was actually the Tracks rules, on "Women in Gasoline Alley" No, they will have pit box further down....
I read that article and laughed....car is a pretty important piece of that puzzle. "we're ready for our golf tournament, all we need is a course!" I like Katherine Legge, it's a shame to see this nonsense perpetually happen to her at Indy. of course maybe that says something about her, too.
yes .it does...unlike the psp she has spent too much time honing her race craft and not enough time on her yoga / bikini body. only one of those actually pays the bills enough to get a woman a ride
