I posed the question about Giacomo Mattioli on the last page, well we don't get all the answers, but Marshall Pruett brings us good news about Giacamo's future role in Indycar

2 big stories today from the Indycar world.

Leena Gade (lead race engineer from Audi LeMans fame) who went to Schmidt Peterson to be race engineer for James Hinchcliff has parted ways with the team after just 5 races. Hinch is 5th in points, but also missed qualifying for the 500. I know going from one discipline to another cannot be easy, but this is a bit of a shocker. While there may be a back story we'll find out later, perhaps she wasn't happy here.

McLaren hires Gil de Ferran as an advisor to look into a possible Indycar project. Where there is smoke, there is fire.

Just to add, Mario Andretti did an interview last week on local Indy radio. He was asked about Alonso and he said there are things going on behind the scenes, but doesn't have anything to share right now. He did add however, that ultimately it's Alonso's decision and things can change.

Knew that was coming when she shut down her Facebook account again. What were they expecting? <shrug>

$1 says McLaren ends up buying Andretti Autosport.

someone had to take the blame for the DNQ at Indy.

I like her, I hope she ends up back in sports cars (either IMSA or WEC)

Let's see...McLaren, Ferrari seem to want to join in. Possibly we say aloha to IndyCar series and make Indy 500 part of the F1 circuit again?

I am too but I don't know if his car/team is strong enough. It would be a remarkable comeback story.

    I'm pulling for Bourdais too.

After the speed he exhibited last year (before his shunt) and this year, he'd be a deserving winner.

But, Indy is such a crap shoot, anything can happen. No clear cut favorite going in this year.

Does anyone have a nice Spotters Guide in color?
I like to have one in hand when the race runs.

Well, Foyt has two cars up front, and the third still in, no changes???
They must have let Larry run things, as those two new cars for this race is a MAJOR change from years gone by, when "what they had, they ran".... :D :D

    Ready for the race!
I guess this is the only discussion thread?
Want to be in the right place!

I am pulling for Bourdais or Pagenaud, would be nice to see Helio reach the 4 club too...but fear the race will be very eventful as the cars are so hard to control and in traffic some of the less experienced will get in trouble. Apparently, much more than in recent years, it will take a lot of fine tuning, constantly, to stay on top of the cars, so brains, brawn and luck will be needed. Hope the lady sees the finish with a decent result in her last race.

Next year I think we might see a McLaren team run by Gil de Ferran with Alonso back.

Indy is a crap shoot. The difference between running at the front and being at the tail end
is razor thin. Which ever car is dialed in for the conditions and avoids trouble wins.

But, then, there's pit stops where we've seen things go sideways for the fastest cars and
an extra tenth of a second in the pits can cost victory.

Weather forecasts for Indy today say its going to be hot, temps in the mid 90s, 70% humidity with
20% chance of rain. Don't think they've run in that sort of heat all month so its going to be down
to who adapts to the conditions and that's usually where the Penske and Ganassi boys have an
    advantage.

Dixon's crew won the pit stop competition on Thursday, could be telling.

Not in the business of predicting results but would like to see Bourdais take it but hard to bet
against Penske and Ganassi runners Newgarden and Helio with dark horses Wickens, Hunter-Reay,
Kanaan challenging. Will be interesting to watch Rahal's progress from the back. I'm told Team Rahal concentrated on race set-ups all month. Never count Dixon out of anything, one of the best all round drivers in the world right now.

Should be good. We've got about 50 RSVPs to the Indy 500 Watch Party presented by TAG
Heuer at Club Lou La Vie today.

All true and we can only wish Dixon a literally more down to earth race this year with a less dramatic ending:)

Wow, hottest weather for any 500 since 1937! Could be a major factor.
