Is the Austin date about to move to coincide with the Stones date of November 20 ?...
Coming back on the topic. What do you Texans/people of Austin think about this? Could this really happen? From a F1 perspective we know this season, just like last is in flux as far as the calendar is concerned, so anything is possible IMHO. At some point I do think they need to finalize the calendar or it will start to look like tampering as in "oh, <insert your driver here> is ahead, but if we squeeze in one more race, <insert your driver's nemesis herer> can catch up". I would welcome a trip to Austin in November, already lousy weather in the Midwest, but still mild in TX.
[AMuS] In the next few days there will be some movement in the F1 calendar. On 8 August, the Olympics will end. After that, a decision will be made soon on whether the JapaneseGP can take place. Japan recorded 14,114 new infections on 4 August, a new record for the country. Should the Japanese GP get cancelled, the RussianGP (26.09) & TurkishGP (3.10) would not be followed by a third race as of today. The British government still has Turkey on its red list. This means you have to be quarantined for 10 days. A race in Japan could avoid this. Staying in a quarantine hotel after the Turkish GP is not possible because then everything would come to a standstill in the factories for 10 days. Another race in the USA to replace Japan is also off the table because it is not logistically possible. There are still 8 weeks to go until the race in Turkey. A lot can happen between now and then. Turkey could be taken off the red list. The F1 management is also said to be working with the British government to negotiate an exemption. But there are also promising news. The vaccination campaign in Brazil has gained momentum. This increases the chances that the BrazilGP can go ahead in November.. And Zandvoort wants full grandstands. The Dutch government will decide on the capacity by 13 August.
Kinda nice to see that both teams are in a real fight for third. McLaren was out to pasture for some years and Ferrari is just bouncing back from one of the worst years in their history.
F1 Dutch Grand Prix to go ahead with 70,000 fans amid Covid restrictions By: Ronald Vording Aug 13, 2021, 2:02 PM The Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix will go ahead with spectators this year, despite Covid-19 restrictions remaining in place in The Netherlands which restrict capacity to 70,000 per day. The Japanese GP is set to become the latest event to be canceled amid a surge in COVID cases. A race in Japan would have been also a way to reduce the quarantine time after the Turkish GP (Turkey is still on UK‘s red list…) Another race (as a replacement for the Japanese GP) in the USA is logistically not possible during that time [quarantine would only end on 13 Oct.]
Joe, I understand the Japanese Grand Prix is indeed confirmed as cancelled. https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/articles/single-seaters/f1/japanese-gp-cancellation-confirmed-by-f1# Rgds

Mugello in frame to replace Turkey after UK red zone decision By: Adam Cooper Aug 27, 2021, 7:39 AM Mugello has emerged as a potential candidate for a 2021 Grand Prix date as Formula 1 bosses scramble to save the Turkish GP. The Istanbul race remains in doubt after the UK government decided to keep Turkey on its COVID-19 red list when the latest updates were announced on Thursday, despite strong lobbying by the country’s government. The next review of the list is not expected until September 16. Meanwhile Mugello is being considered as a possible replacement, despite F1 previously stating that there would be no European races after the planned run of flyaway events begins with the Russian GP on September 26. The Italian venue, which successfully hosted its first F1 race last September, would be a popular choice with fans, teams and drivers. However, it would have to make sense commercially for all parties, and that could yet prove to be a stumbling block. The significance of Turkey’s red zone classification is that anyone who has been in a country on the list in the previous 10 days has to undertake a compulsory 10-day quarantine in a UK government approved hotel, at a cost of £2250 per person. https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/mugello-in-frame-to-replace-turkey-after-uk-red-zone-decision/6654422/
The track being paved in those pictures does not even have the same layout as the track in the artist's drawing. And those buildings will not be done in 100 days, either.
Good points. Yeah, might not quite look like that by the opening day. Still probably ok. My fav grand vision of all times, which was nothing but a pipe dream was the Korean GP: Remember those virtual pictures of a metropolis inside and surrounding the track when in reality it was nothing but an industrious wasteland? This will be much better but likely take a couple of years. I'm sure the $ is there.
