Due to the hoops to jump through for the Canadians many of those made the decision to stay home and avoid the hassle. One who is a large collector and huge supporter of FCA threw in the towel rather last minute and kept his transporter home because of the red tape, expenses and demands. A number of us in Texas were considering putting a truckload together and had a collective YHTBFKM moment and blew the idea off. In fact even flying there and renting a car turned out to be a bunch cheaper to go to Burlington Vermont, renting a car and driving there. So many did that the border guys started asking "Are you going to the Ferrari Club thing too?
Were all these demands, expenses, hassle & red tape caused by Canadian event organizers of FCA, the governmental bureaucracy or both ? Just curious.
Forgot to say. Going through Burlington was a bunch cheaper too. I could have sworn the Canuks wanted to sell me a car, not rent one.
Thanks for explaining. That's just too bad FCA had no ability or access to some official liaison to alleviate these issues.
The paperwork we had to provide to our transporter was ridiculous. We almost threw in the towel, but in the end we were glad we brought our cars.
Still, still, it is a beautiful area. I hope some of you got on the track. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Thank you for those that posted all the wonderful photos. I had a great time at events. For the record I was accused a number of times of being Andretti--always good for a chuckle.
Reverse the situation for a moment. Whatever our regulations are, do you think for just one minute they would be any more accommodating at the request of a car club? Not even for one second. Government at least at a national level are all about forcing behavior at the point of a gun.
Like I said, too bad that in 60 years FCA has not been able to cultivate enough goodwill and/or political connections to deal with such. I’ve been hearing/reading comments like this for years, yet never encountered anything of sort. Perhaps I live in a bubble, a different country/planet or been getting through my days and life with blinders or not awake enough ? OTOH, while I've never been involved with criminal enterprises or military conflicts (although I have some training for latter), in last 40+ years I have faced multitudes of various types of firearms pointed at me by various Local/State/National level LEOs (both in EU & US) and couple of times by some, more nefarious characters, on more occasions I can recall, all were incidents in which I just happened to be in a wrong place at the right/wrong(?) time and I never though they were something specifically designed or intended to be "all about forcing behavior".
I only did the touring laps on Monday, but it was some (relatively) spirited touring compared to touring laps at other events I've been to, even that was a blast. It really is a beautiful location and a phenomenal track, have been there with PCA a few times, always was a highlight of the track season, though the recent ruling regarding the 92 dB limit puts a damper on things - everybody was psyched to watch the F40 do a few demo laps, he got red-flagged and didn't even start a second lap.
