And sounds better and I bet it has that vintage Ferrari smell that no other car seems to have so it smells better.
I looked it up -- Ferrari shows the curb weight (no driver, no cargo/luggage, 1/2 tank of fuel IIRC) of a 1984 US version 308GTB as 3190 lbs.
Those BRZs are pieces if ****, my 175 CC kart will whip its ass no problem. I think it was kind of stupid for the 308 owner to even make this dumb ass video in the first place, good grief. Big G
You could tell when the guys were actually driving it at the end that it was so much better of a driving experience even though it's so much slower. They should have it raced a 1994 Toyota Celica... which did 0-60 in 8 seconds. That would have been maybe a better comparison. The first thing I tell people who ask about the car is that it's not fast compared to anything sold today. It just looks fast.
I enjoyed it. The hoonigan guys got annoying like two years ago. Everyone jokes how a mini van is faster than our cars and even though the Subaru was faster, the 308 wasn’t that far off - for a 40 year older car!!!! Not bad I say. And it might get some kid into a 308 someday. Drag races were never our car’s strong suit.
I think the 308 held up pretty well. More competitive than I thought it would be. No question the Ferrari is the better driving experience, win or lose a silly drag race.
Wow even without those things you mentioned, it’s still heavy, so I wonder where they got those specs unless Donnie did something to his car and told them the current weight now but I still doubt the 2835 l
And even if Donnie didn’t missed the 2nd gear shift twice, the outcome would still be the same but like Mark said, for an 38 years old car, it did held up pretty good.
Agreed. I think some people forget, the manufacture and their technology evolved, not the car produced decades ago.
10-15 years ago i was deep into drag racing (had a high 9 sec in the 1/4 diesel pickup). About 9 years ago, at one of the local big races, the Ultra Street class (5 sec. in the 1/8) needed 2 more cars to make a 32 car field. So me and another guy with a 90's Vette entered the class so 14 guy's with Ultra Street cars wouldn't have to go home. The guy in the Vette was funny because he was so nervous to race the Ferrari! I laughed and told him "don't worry...this thing is not that fast! Of course he beat me!
I love my FRS. I think the FRS/BRZ/GT86 with 6-speed manual offers some of the driving excitement of the 308 in an inexpensive everyday car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's a bit on the high side IMO. I just had a US bumper 78 carb GTS in the shop and it weighed 3080lbs with lighter exhaust, no emissions equipment, and 1/4 tank fuel. My 76 GTB with Euro bumpers weighed under 2850lbs.
You're cheating . With those changes, the weight of your car agrees pretty well with the F published spec of 3225 lbs curb weight for a 1978 US 308GTS. The fuel difference alone is about 25 lbs, and the stock cats and thermally-insulated muffler are a huge brick compared to an aftermarket catless exhaust. Throw in the air injection and fuel evaporation systems = you're back to F's number.
They should have started the roll-race at 100MPH...MAYBE the Ferrari could win that one! Admittedly, a 1980s 308 w0uld (I HOPE!!!) easily outrun a 1980's Subaru but what 99.999% of the watchers take away from the video is that a FERRARI got stomped by a Subaru!
The funny thing is that the BRZ and Toyota GR-86 twin have been considered sort of gutless for many years. They got more power in the recent model refresh but is still just 228 HP, which is low by modern standards. My last few modern sports cars have been 400+ HP and it has spoiled me (that said, I still prefer my 328 for weekend drives, hands down).
If a BRZ has only 228 HP, I'm shocked at how easily it walked away from that 308! Was the Ferrari hitting on all 8? Sadly, we (3x8 owners) appear to be going counter to the old saying and driving a fast car slow! Yeah, we know it's not a fast car (any more) but everyone else thinks it is,
