What started off pretty bland, turned into an exciting race. The red flag rule that allows teams to change parts and tires remains awful. It completely nullified the entire first half of the race. All the strategy and work done means nothing, and now it's more about what tires do you have left to put on the car.

Red Bull celebrate with another record by Max. 16 wins in a season and counting. An entire nation moaning and crying as Perez crashed himself out of the race, there was bursts of laughter to be heard elsewhere around the globe. A racing incident yes, but 100% Perez' fault. He got overexcited and wanted to win the race into turn 1, shooting to be the hero of Mexico. Well turns out he still sucks no matter what country he's in, and he failed miserably and put up and big zero!

Mercedes had a good race car going into the race. They got the strategy and tire calls right with Hamilton. Lewis did a phenomenal job getting the medium tires to last and having pace in reserve to set the fastest lap. Despite him thinking Mercedes haven't built a good car in 2 years, their current car is not as far off the Red Bull as people may think. They just can't keep pace with Max. Russell once again was well off of Lewis and held on for dear life for that 6th position.

Ferrari with a shocking 1-2 start, and while it was unlikely they would keep the lead for very long, they didn't even make it one quarter of a lap. Poor starts by both cars. Leclerc gets clipped by Perez which surprisingly didn't affect his car too much. He was driving extremely well in that first stint. Probably should have seen the black/orange flag with the endplate flapping. Ferrari showed they have no idea how to make a strategy call with Sainz. They had the perfect window to pit into clean air, with new tires would guaranteed be ahead of Lewis. By splitting the strategy they would at the least help out Leclerc, or at best they could have alternative options if the SC car came out. Which it did. But instead Mercedes got it right, and Ferrari had to watch Sainz questionably swerve and weave down the straight to protect his position.

McLaren had a great car when the tires were working right. Lando had a brilliant race. Like Martin Brundle said, he probably passed 25 cars. Too bad Lando is becoming the king of the "coulda woulda shoulda". Claiming he had the car for a great result, but for some reason isn't delivering. Perhaps had higher expectations out of Piastri. The McLaren had the pace, so why wasn't he battling for the podium?

AlphaTauri are unbelievably a decent car now. From being the worst and now in a position to be ahead of Alpine and Aston Martin. That's amazing. Ricciardo giving an all-star performance and showing he still has some drive in him. Wonderful to see. After the red flag, Tsunoda was right there in the fight as well. Too bad he threw it all away by driving into Piastri and then instead of doing a quick spin on the tarmac to get back on track, he chooses to lose more time by driving through the grass. Huge fail on his part.

Williams was a car suited for Mexico. Fast on the straights, good power, and their already low downforce doesn't get affected as much relative to others with higher downforce. Albon looked amazing through 3 practices, but then lost the balance or something after that. Still managed to grab points so not a terrible day in the end. Logan was even in there fighting, just not for points.

Alpine not quite there. Probably the 6th best car, fighting among the 11-14th all day. Were there team orders that let Ocon passed Gasly to fight Hulkenberg? If so, why were the positions not reversed in the end?

Haas has made a significant upgrade. The car has always been pretty quick in outright pace, but horrendous in race pace and tire management. They seemed to have improved a lot. However for Hulk to try and hold onto points with medium tires in a Haas is still virtually impossible. Kmag a pretty big shunt with a LEFT rear suspension failure. Despite the 10 replays, Sky Sports continued to say it was the right rear.

Alfa Romeo had the second worst car. Neither driver really stood out over the other. Bad day.

Aston Martin have dropped all the way to the bottom. You have to feel terrible for Alonso as we've seen this before. He gives 110% and delivers way beyond the capabilities of the car. He does this over and over and the team fail to develop and continue to let him down to the point it starts to mentally break him. Stroll can be happy, he probably thinks he's now competitive against Fernando. Confidence in fighting for 14th or 15th and still screw up... what a winner.

Driver of the Day: Lando Norris. Battled his way up, then dropped back. Didn't give up, and battled his way back up once again. Made some impressive passes along the way. Didn't overheat the car, didn't kill the tires. Great job.

I think I’ll start skipping the race and just wait for the analysis. Save myself two hours and endless bla bla bla from Crofty et al. Great recap once again!
