Ask any principal what is more beneficial to the team finances. In 1982, Keke Rosberg became WDC after only winning 1 GP, against Pironi, Watson, Lauda or Arnoux who each won 2. Keke drove an inferior car but distanced his rivals by scoring points regularly all season when they collected DNF
Alpine are 84 points behind Mercedes. Ham would get crushed by the spaghetti strategies at Ferrari. And Lec is naturally faster. Rus would be a better bet.
again, go and ask any team what they prefer, a few victories or a bunch of second places.... Ps: keke didn't won it because he drove more more carefully than the others, he just hapened to drive the most reliable car of the ones in front,
You are moving the goalpost here. You started this conversation saying "Ask any racer, if they prefer 14 4th places or 1 victory?" Did you not ? My opinion is that what matters to a team is its WCC ranking; that's what brings the bacon. If a team obtains a good ranking by regular good placings, it worth more than a one-off win, and plenty of DNFs in the other races. .
Max breaks Vettel's Red Bull win record, plenty more to come. I'd bet any team with a lot of 2nds would really WANT a win.
Bs, any driver or any team will prefer the victory to the points. Any team or driver will get a lot more publicity winning a race than scoring secondary places....do you think they rather have a book saying they had 20 4tg places or to have a nice trophy for a victory? Go and ask Jean Alesi what he values most, his 4th place at the champioship or his win at canada, go ask Panis, or Ocon...
WEll, Jean had to pass a few cars to get there, and if there was any luck involved, it was in a very small amount with all the bad one that deprived from several other wins....they value them, because a victory is much more important than points, cause these are worthless unless you're the one colecting the most at the end of the year. Even Alboreto once said he would prefer a season without winning the wdc but with several wins, that a title gained at the cost of honourable places....
He's also a much better and complete driver than Elton ever was at that age....or any other age for that matter...
