I just bought #00350, a 206 Dino purchased by Jim Sweeny in Italy in 1976. He restored it from 1991-1994 with 40k on the clock and put 2000 miles on it since them. I would call it as close as you could get to show quality, but still a driver.
Engine rebuild by John Mccann and I have $80 k in receipts detailing all the work. The 206 arrives here in Maui end of the month. I have some tools and the pouch and an owners manual that got wet and can't be opened, but the cover is in great shape. No buyers remorse, paid 120k.

Congratulations Gregg! 206 Dinos are completely underrated, there are so few around these days. FABULOUS cars!
PS: Can you tell me the Italian license plate on that old photo? What exactly does it say? Is it MO 263059 ?

    Aloha..
I have both the licence plates and that is the number..I also have the italian temporary registration. You can see the plates hanging on the wall in his garage, he's handing me the keys in the first photo, and that's him in Italy in 1976 in the last photo, which is also on the wall in the garage.............

Very nice car. So far above and beyond any regular production 246 GT or GTS. A true piece of history and driving delight!

Price seems spot on and better than nearly anything else in that price range to hold its own if not rise over time.

    Congratulations!

    Well done!

By the way, in the ‘70s when Florence had a major flood lots of rather valuable books were damaged by water, in fact they ended up with their pages glued together rather like your manual.

A system of restoration was invented, which worked rather well. The books were re-immersed in water and allowed to soak, which separated the pages. They were then frozen. They were then placed in a near vacuum and gently warmed up. The water went directly from a solid into a gas, leaving the books once again readable.

Mind you, I’m not sure I’d recommend that for your owner’s manual, but now you know!

Congrats that is a car to die for,do you think you can keep it and coset it for the next 30 years?
I have to say i feel sorry for Jim Sweeny he will be going into that empty garage for a long time to come and wondering how his dear old friend and family member is getting on.
    Regards

Jim Sweeny had a dozen other cars in his stable....from a 64 vette to a LaSalle convertable to a 56 Pontiac Safari. He just had a knee replacement so couldn't drive what he called his "Rembrant" any more. I told him of all the cars he has he was selling the best one..he agreed. I'm sending him photos of the Italian plates he gave me to put back on the wall.....I also told him that I was the right person to have bought his Dino. He was approached by the auction houses to put it on the block....I plan to drive it about 100+ miles a week here in Haiku. Winding roads, no signals, and lots of fun.......

    Gregg,

Congratulations on the Dino! What a special little car. Just out of curiosity, is the steering wheel reall as thick as it looks? I've always thought that Dino steering wheels where rather thin. Is that unique to the 206 models? Again, congrats. She's gorgeous! :)

Correct steering wheel should be a 380mm wood wheel w/ Dino horn button. The wheel pictured is a smaller "comp" wheel.

The steering wheel in the photo is not too different than the Momo Prototipo that I got in a Dino deal. The padded leather grip has a larger diameter than the stock one and fits my hands a bit better. I prefer it to the stock Dino wheel.

I'd suggest getting used to driving with the steering wheel that came on the car before changing it, you may find you like it.
The previous owner was well informed and he chose that one.
