Aloha... It is with a bit of regret that I traded in my 206 GT to Canepa Design and purchased a 1964 AC Cobra CRX 2521. Sad to see my 206 go, and looking forward to my new ride. I assume it will soon be for sale, and I can assure anyone interested that it is a GREAT driving car. Very original and complete, with ownership back to day one. Be sure to ask for Robert at Canepa if you need more onfo, he's a gem. Sure was fun.. Mahalo to all Gregg Blue Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's one seriously original looking Cobra, Mr. Blue. You'll find it to be a totally different experience, but you'll love it. Many moons ago, we owned CSX2103; 'lot's of fond, and occasionally scary, memories. It's still alive and well on the vintage circuit. A note of caution: The Snake is primitive and brutal compared to the Dino. It'll bite you, if you let it. Enjoy that beautiful beast a lot, but fear it just a little. We'll miss you around here, Gregg. I hope you'll continue to keep us in the loop and share your impressions and more of your super pictures. Congrats, Coop
Lovely looking Cobra, I much prefer the early body shape - without the "macho" flares I bet it will feel very different to the Dino though.

Condolences on the loss of the 206, and congratulations on the Cobra. You referred to "the other car in [your] garage," so I assume you have just the Cobra and the Porsche. If so, I just wanted to say I think you are doing the right thing, keeping only two cars and enjoying and knowing them very well. Local Cobra tales: Shelby and Phil Hill in about 1998 very kindly accepted an invitation from our sports car club to visit and stay a few days in our town. Before they arrived, we parked a very original 427 Cobra in the hotel lobby We didn't tell Shelby or Hill about the Cobra, so they were so surprised to see the car. We had to take down and put back a large glass panel to bring the Cobra into the hotel, but it was worth it to see the expression on their faces. Phil put his hand on the Cobra and said "I feel I drove this particular car before." At a dinner with them, the restaurant's musicians came to our table and played. The Cobra owner (who plays violin with an orchestra as a hobby) borrowed a violin from one of the musicians and played. Shelby's jaw dropped and he exclaimed "I never thought I would see the day when I would see a Cobra driver play the violin!" As we were walking after the dinner, Shelby slipped me a small Swiss Army knife with his logo on it. I'm not exactly sure where it is now, but I sure hope it is just sitting around somewhere. Andres
Gregg, I know you will enjoy the 289 Cobra. They are fantastically fun to drive, but so different from the Dino. I have both and made the mistake of taking them both to a gymkhana on the same day and trying to compete in both. My mind was totally whipped by the drastically different handling characteristics of each car on the very tight course that day. You can't beat the Dino for the engine sound, the view from the cockpit out over those gorgeous fenders and the ground level seating position. On the other hand, the "rumpeta, rumpeta, rumpeta..." sound from the idling 289 Hipo is music to my ears and the substantial torque and brute acceleration and well as the relatively neutral handling compared to the understeer of the Dino has its own charm. Both bodies are among the most beautiful auto designs of all times, I think. Amazing how many Cobra and Dino owners have owned both. It must be genetic!!! Aloha.. Thanks for all the input.. I had an AC Mark IV 1986 with a 302...made by AC in England and loved to drive it...the 289 should be a little more nimble. I'll know in 2 weeks when it arrives. Went up the mountain in my 59 GT today....I have about 2000 miles on it since November. Love to drive these cars.... I knew CSX 2521 back when it was in its original green paint. A previous owner had it for 30+ years here in central NY and drove it to many local shows. I am very familiar with it; its a great car. When he sold it a few years ago it was still all original. It looks great restored! Attached is a picture of 2521 from many years ago. Jim Image Unavailable, Please Login
Aloha Jim Farley..VP of Ford bought it from Jim Whitley and had it restored. Jim Valentine did the engine and Mike Maclusky stripped it down to bare metal and painted it black. Bill Kimper did the rest......no story car with basically 2 owners in 40 years.. get's here in 10 days...... Mahalo Gregg
Gregg, Post some pics of it at 10,000 feet on Maui for us!!! ed, I think there is only a small select group over there that appreciate Dinos. I am one however! How the heck did you know I am a regular there? LOL. Jim
Aloha.. Here's my 59 GT Carrera at 10,000 feet, and CRX 2521 a couple of days ago before being dropped off for a 2200 mile boat ride.... Enjoy Anyone coming to Maui is welcome to visit my 2 car collection....we always end up going out for a ride Gregg Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I drove a Ford Taurus up Mt Haleakala (sp?) with my wife & 3 kids several years ago. The Ford handled like a Yak & the kids got car sick. At the time I wished that I could either be driving a Dino or a 289 Cobra up there. Certainly you are doing it & having more fun than I did!! By the way I am working very hard to bring your other red Dino back to life!! Have fun & enjoy- you have great taste in cars!!
I scanned a couple of old photos of CSX 2521 from 1982 or 1983 taken at a Ford show in Syracuse NY. The owner at that time, Bill W, is in the hat in the top picture. This was the first real Cobra I ever saw as a young guy and it made quite an impression on me. Jim Image Unavailable, Please Login
