originally only intended for the italian (due to tax regulations) domestic market Ferrari produced a 2 litre version of the 308

started in 1980 they build 160 gtb amd 140 gts wth a 155 bhp engine

in 1982 they gave these an upgrade with a turbo giving it 220bhp. They build 437 gtb and 250 gts models.
these are referred to as 208 gtb/gts Turbo

last ugrade was with the introduction of the 328
the 208 model was visually upgrade to 328 looks and the engine got an intercooler as well, giving it 254 bhp. They build 308 pcs of the gtb and 828 gts'
official name for this type was gtb/gts Turbo ( so without the 208 number in the name)

Although originally produced for domestic reasons the 208 model are seen in Europe on occasion. Althought pretty rare their pricing is below a similar age 308/328
Last sold (that i know) was a car in Germany ebay last month. It ended on some us$ 36000 ( is the same price the least expensive 308 advertised for in Europe right now)

just for the records: i got all this info from the book "Ferrari by Pininfarina"

just for my info: are there 208 models in the US too?

There is an interesting article on the 208 in the current issue of Forza. The first such article I've seen in more than 20 years.
