A dear friend has a Euro 208 GT4 with transaxle fluid in the radiator. Has anyone heard of this situation?

I don't understand how that is possible without opening up the coolant reserviour and pouring gear oil in. Engine oil is possible though the head gasket but I am at a loss on tranny fluid.

Is your friend sure that it's gear oil? The gearbox/trans and cooling loop aren't connected (unless your friend has maybe added some sort of heat exchanger, like the 360 has). As MN has said, you can get crankcase oil in there through a gasket failure. Has your friend experienced a change in how the engine runs, or is he/she seeing foam or signs of contamination on the dipstick? If a head gasket goes, there tends to be a fluid swap. Blown head gasket = compression loss, so the engine shouldn't be running quite the same. If it's the easy scenario, maybe someone dumped oil into the expansion/recovery tank by mistake? The oil fill caps are hard to miss, but I've heard of stranger things happening. Has it been serviced recently?
