    Hi all,
as some of you may know I am in the third month of my 1980 208 GTB ownership - and what a joy!

I drove it home on the Appennine mountains at the end of July and the car was perfect on the road and in the garage, where I never noticed a single drop of anything.

Then this sunday I drove it for some 40-50 kms, and once it was hot I happened to rev up near 8.000 rpms for a couple of times - something I never did before, stopping at 7.000, nor the previous owner did, being an extremely conscious person never exceeding 4.000 rpms!

Once at home I found that a thin film of engine oil was lying on the flat top of the engine block, between the heads, and that some drops fell on the ground. These drops created a couple of tiny ponds, and today they were not increased in size. This clearly suggested me that the oil leaks only when driving.

Later a more attentive inspection suggested me that the oil came off the connection of the oil filter, because some was sprayed on top of the small plate on top of the clutch bell, which is a little raised over the flat top of the engine block (see pictures).

Then I checked the oil level, and with the engine cold it was a couple of inches above the maximum - yet the user manual says to check it with the engine hot, but I had no time to do so.

Said that, I am going to talk to a couple of mechanics, but meanwhile I would appreciate your comments if anyone had a similar experience.

Thank you very much and best regards,

    Nic

I am dealing with the same thing on my 308GTB. My suspicion is its the gasket between the oil filter housing and the block. I can't find any oil leaking from the filter gasket, either of the oil pressure sending units and the banjo fitting for the large oil cooler line. Obviously its coming from somewhere so my focus right now is on that gasket.

Check the oil pressure sending unit, they leak right out of the spade connector
