RE: 2. Yes. About twelve to fourteen years ago at Bill Jacobs' Chicago BMW dealer he had a Red 208 GT4 for sale. I want to recall it was a '77 and he wanted low $20's for the car. Wish I could remember more about it as it was the first and last two liter Ferrari I have seen in the states...
Graci It's interesting to read about real-world driving differences between the 208 and 308. Sorry Miles Per Gallon is the stupid way we measure fuel economy in the US. Although the fuel gauge in my QV is broken I would bet that the consuption is more than 15 L/100km... http://calculator-converter.com/l_100km_mpg_convert_mpg_to_l_per_100_km.php The turbo piping isn't as extensive as I would have guessed. Found this motore photo on another thread (about a 308 V12 conversion of all places) Interesting that the intake tube is quite a bit smaller exiting the turbo than it is entering the intake plenum with 'only' 1.05 bar. In normal condition, fuel consumption of my car is around 12,5 l/100 kms (18.8 MPG). I once tried to understand what it was on a track, and in Imola I registered 25 l/100 kms (9.4 MPG), which is an interesting figure for a 2 liters car... I don't know much about turbos, either. I guess it must be different from what you suggest, because there are cars that have less than 1 bar boost (if I'm not mistaken, Porsche 993 turbo had 0,7) and so it would be less than atmospheric pressure. Am I wrong? We need some explanation!!!
I'm not sure, but I think that "bar" is the measurement of pressure ABOVE atmospheric. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.
doh, should have known that. I'm sure you're right, the 1.05bar must be gauge pressure not absolute. heh, driving just about any car on a track will make a Hummer seem like a fuel sipper I drove various small displacement car (2L Alfas, Opel Speedster, Audi A3, BMW Z4 etc) on the Nurburgring and when you're going full throttle it's amazing how much fuel they use. Same with 200kph+ autobahn running. Supposedly Subaru WRXs use over 40 l/100km around the 'Ring!!! They must get christmas cards from the local gas station...
