So, other than the $80 Hill Engineering socket at Ricambi, is there a 22 mm socket that won't tear up my lug nuts?

Considering the lug nuts cost about $40 ea, a one time expense of $80 to protect them isn't that bad. My set came from Griots (actually an Xmas gift) and I use the other sockets on my other cars. They are a nice addition to your tool box.
Hey Christmas is coming, ask for it as a stocking stuffer !

OZAT and Snap-On both offer 7/8" aluminum-lined sockets -- do a search on "OZAT" for prior threads.

You can get an enitre plastic-sleeved set from Griot's that has a 22mm (for under $80) - it is imported, but the quality is very nice.

Yeah, I didn't even think to look at Griot's. I found a similar set to his from Tooltopia. I checked Snap-on but didn't see anything other than standard sockets. OZAT, I'll have to search on that. It didn't come up in my previous Fchat search.

    Thanks.

been a long time, but i think i got my 22mm socket somewhere like Sears
(through their mail order, maybe), for pretty cheap(nothing like $80).

What i do is fold over a plastic grocery bag a few times, place it on the bolt,
then position the socket on top of that. Still have plenty of grip, but the plastic
prevents any scratch marks(have very clean bolts after many years doing this).

I've heard of people using sandwich bags, thick paper, etc.

Just be sure to reposition it when using on the next bolt, so that the contact
points don't wear through too much.
